Happy New Year!

Rodeo Creek Court to be complete by Summer 2024!

We broke ground at Rodeo Creek Court (RCC) in August 2020, and through the hard work of our construction team, regular volunteers, corporate teams, and our donors, we have moved eight of the eleven families into their homes at RCC. We are rounding the bases in the Home Stretch, with the Leahy and Davis Family homes to be complete in January, the Hart Family home in the springtime, and the other community elements to wrap up by summer. Thank you to everyone who has brought the project to this point!

You're Invited to the

Home Dedication Ceremony

for two more families becoming first-time homeowners!

Saturday, February 3, 2024

1:00 - 2:30 PM

2340 Harper Street

Santa Cruz

Light refreshments will be served

Welcome the Leahy Family!

Sierra, Taj, and their little ones, Aurora and Amani, have been living in truly poor conditions in their rental. They have been wanting to build deep roots for their family but were considering moving out of Santa Cruz because they didn't see how they could afford to stay. They are ecstatic to be building their community in Santa Cruz.

Welcome the Davis Family!

As a single mom for two great kids, Jona is thrilled to be moving into their Habitat home. She says that building this stability for her kids, Layne and Allie, was something she had dreamt of but didn't think was possible. They never felt at home in any of the rentals they lived in - the Habitat home finally feels like theirs, and there is nothing like having a place to call their own.

Women Build March 2024

Sponsor or Donate to Women Build

Each year, we host Women Build, a special event where we invite business and community to come together to empower and uplift women's roles in construction. We invite volunteers to work on the build site, alongside our professional construction crew, future homeowners, and other volunteers. No prior construction experience is required.

There are many ways to participate - volunteer at the build site, donate to support the cause, or sponsor the event as a local business committed to empowering women and working together to build stronger neighborhoods.

Individual volunteer shifts will be open to sign up in mid-February. Stay tuned!

In Loving Memory of Jon Hooper

Jon O. Hooper, longstanding Habitat volunteer for two decades, passed away January 9, 2024, at his home in Santa Cruz.

Jon began his volunteer service in 2002, assisting with Habitat’s home build project on San Jose Ave., in Santa Cruz.

Jon continued to contribute his time and talent to four home builds on Frederick St. and Harper St., and a 7-home development on Los Esteros Ct.

Since 2020, Jon rode his bike, twice weekly, to our current 11-home development, Rodeo Creek Court (RCC) in Live Oak. As a key member of our esteemed Golden Hammer Crew, Jon donated more than 1,000 volunteer hours to move the project along.

Jon would take on any task at hand at RCC including roofing, digging trenches, framing, and cleaning up the job site. A humble man, Jon could lighten-up the mood at the build site. He was a delightful human being, respected and beloved by his companion volunteers and Habitat’s construction staff.

Habitat is grateful for Jon’s remarkable, unwavering volunteer service. We extend our sincere sympathy and condolences to Jon’s wife, Jean, his adult children, family and friends.

Winter Giving was a success!

Annual Campaign: "Home Stretch at RCC"

We want to send huge thanks to our community who supported Habitat during the end of year giving season. There are many deserving organizations, and your donations show your commitment to our mission to build quality homes and provide homeownership opportunities for local hardworking families. Between the Home Stretch Campaign, Monterey County Gives, Santa Cruz Gives, and our online auction, Home for the Holidays, you helped us raise over $200,000 to advance our vision to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Thank you!!!

We cannot build homes, communities, and hope without the support of our donors and volunteers. We thank you for your support!
