Drop in to observe something rare in the night sky through our 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, a high-precision instrument well suited for viewing the faint, fast-moving shadows crossing Jupiter’s cloudtops.
On May 15, the shadows of two of Jupiter’s moons — Europa and Ganymede — will cross the planet at the same time in a striking double shadow transit, a relatively rare celestial event.
Free drop-in viewing will be available at the Observatory. The first shadows will begin appearing between approximately 9:30–10:00 PM, with both visible together from approximately 10:30 PM–midnight. Final entry around 10:50 PM.
No registration or purchase necessary. Just bring your curiosity and look up!
