A Legacy of Care.

A Future of Better Health.

October is many things, spooky season, pumpkin spice latte everything, but for us the most important date in October is Make a Will Week. It’s a week to remember and prioritize that a Will is not only about planning for the people you love. It can also be a powerful way to shape the future of the community you care about.

At NDHF, we see the lasting impact of legacy giving every day.

Impact felt from people like Allan McKenzie, whose gift in his Will is designated in support of the future Cardiac Catheterization Lab for Central Vancouver Island. Allan describes his approach simply: “some now, more later.” His generosity has already helped build momentum for a project that will transform cardiac care in our region.

Impact from the Estate of Michael Wansink, whose legacy gift has transformed care in Oceanside. Michael’s generous bequest is supporting the new Family Medicine Clinic at Oceanside Health Centre, the Primrose Medical Centre and enhancements at Trillium Lodge - investments that will benefit patients and families for years to come.

These are two very different gifts, but they share something important: a belief that the care we build today can be a gift to generations we may never meet. If you are updating your Will this October, we’d love to have a conversation about the legacy you want to leave, and how your thoughtful gift can also reduce the tax burden on your estate. Every legacy gift has an extraordinary impact on health care now and for future generations.

Thank you for helping us build a healthier future together.

For Michael Wansink, leaving a gift in his Will to improve healthcare in the community he called home was a natural extension of the values of service and caring for others he lived by. Guided by Michael’s children Matthew and Michelle - NDHF was able to designate his unrestricted, cash bequest to make a transformational impact on three projects addressing issues close to his heart - the care of seniors and families in Oceanside. Thanks to Michael’s support, the Oceanside Health Centre’s new Primary Care Clinic is now seeing patients, Trillium Lodge residents are enjoying a beautiful Therapeutic Garden, and thousands of patients will soon receive care at the innovative Primrose Medical Centre.

For more than 30 years, TB Vets Charitable Foundation has supported healthcare in our community with respiratory equipment from their Frontline Heroes Grant.

From specialized breathing equipment for our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to vital signs monitors for Oceanside Health Centre, TB Vets is helping Central Island patients suffering from respiratory emergencies.

This year, they made their largest gift ever - $59,585 to fund a new GlideScope Core System for the Emergency Department at NRGH! This state-of-the-art visualization system has a high-definition camera to assist physicians when navigating complex airways in emergency respiratory situations.

Thanks to TB Vets, our Emergency Department team will have another powerful tool to help patients breathe easier when every second matters.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Golf for Life presented by Hub International!

It was a wonderful day on and off the course filled with great golf, friendly competition, delicious food and plenty of memorable moments. From the excitement on the course to the conversations and connections shared throughout the day, the energy and generosity of our community made this year’s tournament truly special.

Whether you golfed, volunteered, donated, purchased 50/50 tickets or cheered on the participants, thank you for being part of the day. We are especially grateful to our sponsors for their partnership and commitment, which helped make this event possible.

Thanks to the generosity of our Golf for Life community, this year’s event raised over $159,000 toward advancing surgical technology at NRGH.
