This Week: Presidents Day, Trash Schedule Changes, Penguin Plunge on the way!

Mayors Message

As we observe Presidents Day, we reflect on the leadership, service, and enduring principles that have shaped our nation. Today is a time to honor the office of the presidency and the individuals who have served our country — and to remember that our shared commitment to democracy, civic engagement, and community rises above party lines.

With our schools closed for winter break, I hope our students, families, and educators enjoy a well-deserved opportunity to rest, recharge, and spend quality time together.

And as we continue to embrace the winter season, please save the date for our Penguin Plunge on March 1st at Memorial Park. With the frozen river and snow-covered surroundings, it’s sure to be a chilly one! We look forward to seeing brave participants and enthusiastic spectators come together for this fun and spirited Nyack tradition.

Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing, and meaningful Presidents Day and winter recess.

Spring is Coming — and so is the Spring Event Guide!

I know that it still feels like the dead of winter, but we’re only about a month away from the beginning of Spring. With that in mind, we are starting preparations for our Nyack Spring Events Guide, which will cover events from the end of March through Memorial Day.

If you want your event in the Guide, go to this link: www.nyack.link/submit. Please fill out the form there with all the details, including a short blurb describing the event.

Snow GO GO GO AWAY!

We just wanted to share with you that our wonderful staff at DPW has reported that in the two weeks following the big snowfall, they took over 200 truckloads of snow out of the Village. The snow was carted to Memorial Park, some private parking lots at the bottom of Lydecker Street, and an empty commuter lot near the intersection of Route 303 and 59.

It may seem like we still have a lot of snow around, but imagine if we dumped back 200 trucks worth!

The good news: It’s supposed to be a little warmer this week, so we might get some melting.

The bad news: Remember to be careful of black ice in the morning, when the snow melts during the day, and then the runoff freezes overnight.

🚧 High Ave – Franklin St Drainage Project Starting this Week

The High Ave – Franklin St Drainage Improvement Project will be starting shortly.

This project includes installation of a new storm water drainage along High Avenue, east of Midland Ave to Franklin St). The new pipe will disconnect an existing drainage line that currently runs beneath several homes (from High Ave to Catherine St) and redirect it to connect with the culvert drainage system on Franklin Street.

Once drainage improvements are complete:

  • High Avenue will be repaved within the work zone.
  • Any sidewalks disturbed during construction will be restored.
  • Driveway aprons impacted by the work will also be repaired.

This project is funded by FEMA as part of recovery efforts related to the Hurricane Ida September 2021 storm. The project will be managed by the Village Engineers, and Tony Casale Inc. is the contractor. Traffic may be detoured at times; however, every effort will be made to keep traffic moving safely and efficiently.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during construction. For questions, please contact the Nyack Village Administrator’s Office at 845-358-0548 ext. 283.

Additional updates will be shared as the project progresses.
