Donate Life Month at Transplant House

At Transplant House of Cleveland, we believe in advocating for organ donation and transplantation 365 days a year. Every April we are especially focused on joining the rest of the transplant community to raise awareness of the life-saving impact of saying "yes" to becoming an organ, eye, and tissue donor. A single donor can save as many as 8 lives and heal many, many more.

Here at the House we see this healing power firsthand. Not all transplant journeys have the outcomes that we and our guest families hope for; but organ donation and transplantation make it possible for many of our guests to have a second chance at life. For patients this can mean so many different things: fulfilling the dreams for a retirement shared with a spouse, the chance to be present at a child's wedding, more time with grandchildren, getting married and starting a family, or returning to school.

Our guests come to us from all walks and stages of life with a shared hope: to receive the gift of a renewed life. Their chance begins with a "yes" from a donor.

Meet Bruce and Tina

As part of our celebration of #DonateLifeMonth, we are sharing guest stories from current and former House guests. Bruce and Tina Bradshaw came to Cleveland in January of 2022. Bruce, in need of a new heart, was told when checking in to the Cleveland Clinic that until he received a transplant he would be staying at the hospital. Unsure of how long their stay in Cleveland would be, his wife Tina moved into her apartment at Transplant House and their wait for Bruce's second chance at life began.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Gala on April 9th! With the help of attendees, donors, volunteers, Board and committee members, we honored Lifebanc CEO and Transplant House Board Member Gordon Bowen for his 38 year career as an advocate for organ donation and transplantation. In addition to a star-studded celebrity dance competition, attendees shared in the joy of coming together and raising over $221,000 in support of the mission of Transplant House! Making This House a Home

Thank you to former House guest Tabitha Keenan and family for making a generous donation of Wish List items to Transplant House! It takes many acts of kindness to make this House a welcoming and comfortable home-away-from-home for patients and caregivers. Gifts of household supplies help us keep our apartments stocked with all the necessities, so guests don't have to purchase their own during their stay.

Getting Ready for Spring

Volunteers are a big part of making this House a home-away-from-home for organ transplant families. Thank you to the volunteers from Case Western Reserve University's Sigma Chi Fraternity for installing AC units in our 25 apartments! We are so appreciative of all of our volunteers whose work year-round makes Transplant House a welcoming, comfortable place to call home.

Providing a Taste of Home

Our meal volunteers are a big reason why our guests find Transplant House a welcoming, home-away-from-home while staying in Cleveland for life-saving medical care. The Wednesday dinners are the perfect volunteer activity for a group and we have a need for meal volunteers beginning in June!

Ring that Bell!

We can't think of a better way to celebrate Donate Life Month than with a bell ringing! Jill Burnett came to Cleveland from her home in Indiana in need of a liver transplant. After 54 nights at Transplant House, Jill and her caregiver Donna returned home to begin the next part of Jill's transplant journey: her second chance at life made possible by transplant!

Bell ringings at the House are special occasions. They celebrate the gift of life made possible by a donor's decision to say "yes" and remind us of all the blessings that organ donation provides. If you are not already a donor, please consider registering today.
