Free COVID-19 Tests
The library is distributing free COVID-19 tests through a program from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Kits – each containing 2 tests – can be picked up at the circulation desk. One kit per person per day while supplies last.

Seed Library
Take some. Leave some. Grow some. Check out our seed library managed by the Waterford Garden Club and the Friends of the Library and hosted by the Waterford Township Public Library. It is now located in a file cabinet in the Adult Department by the map and atlas cases. More information about taking, sharing, and growing seeds is available on and in the file cabinet. The Seed Library is open to everyone.

Donate Your Shoes for Charity
Waterford Youth Assistance is having their 5th Annual Shoe Drive from July 7th through mid-September. The library will be one of the drop-off locations for your gently used and/or new shoes. So clean out your closets and help this worthy organization raise some funds. Check their Facebook page for updates and details for other events.

Summer Reading Program (Ages 3 - 12)
Monday, June 3rd - Wednesday, July 31st
It’s not too late to register for the Summer Reading Program. Register online or in person and track your reading with Beanstack. Pick up your summer reading bag at the children's desk with a pencil, bookmark, coupons for free items around town, and other giveaways. Stop by the children's desk once a week. We'll check your reading progress in Beanstack and you can enter a weekly raffle for a gift card of your choice from Meijer or Amazon. Go to Summer Reading Book Club for more details.

Outdoor Family Storytime (Recommended for ages 2 - early elementary)
Monday, June 3rd - Monday, July 29th from 10:30 am - 11:00 am
Join us on Mondays at 10:30am for an outdoor storytime. Storytimes are held on the grassy area under the storytime tree between the library building and fenced-in sidewalk leading up to the veterans’ memorial. Bring your own blanket, towel, or chair to
sit on.
No registration required. In case of inclement weather, storytime will be held in the library community room.

This summer's program theme is "Adventure Begins at Your Library". Each week we will offer a different adventure theme that features a variety of activities. Registration is not required.

Smokey Bear’s Reading Challenge
March 1st through November 28th
In celebration of Smokey Bear's 80th birthday, Michigan has joined the U.S. Forest Service's "Smokey Bear's Reading Challenge" for children ages 3-8.
All you have to do to participate is log into Beanstack, select the challenge, then read three (3) books about forests, wildfires, environmental issues, camping, wilderness survival and/or nature. Some suggested reading is in the booklist below, but you don't have to read just from the list.
Once you have read your three books, check in with a Children's Librarian to confirm your reading and get a book prize!

Teen Summer Reading Challenge (Grades 6th - 12th)
Monday, June 3rd - Wednesday, July 31st
Go to Beanstack to register for our Summer Reading Challenge. You just have to log the number of minutes you read through July 31st. Ideally, your goal should be to read at least 20 minutes a day. We know summer is busy with all kinds of activities, but it’s important to keep reading over the summer in order to stay sharp for when school starts up again. You can read books, graphic novels, magazines, newspapers, and comic books. eContent and audiobooks are acceptable as well. Go to Teen Programs for more details.

Stop Motion Animation Workshop with Alex Thomas & Friends (Grades 6th - 12th)
Thursday, July 11th from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm in the Community Room
Learn about the magic of stop-motion animation and get hands-on experience when you build your own stop-motion puppet and bring it to life. Participants will get a free DVD of the finished product. Registration required

Adult Summer Reading
Monday, June 3rd - Wednesday, July 31st
There’s still time to register for our Beanstack Adult Summer Reading Challenge! Log the adult books you read to earn badges. Each book you log earns you a badge. Write brief reviews if you wish.
Go to Beanstack or use the Beanstack app to track your reading and earn chances to win a prize.
If you read or listen to 5 adult books of your choosing (must be library books, either print or digital, please!) from June 3 through July 31, and log them on Beanstack you will be entered into our grand prize drawing for a Kindle Fire HD 10 tablet. Two lucky readers will each win a Kindle Fire HD 10 tablet. We will also have a small prize drawing each week; anyone who reads and submits a book that week will be eligible for the weekly drawing. Feel free to read more than five books, because reading is awesome, however it will not increase your chances in the prize drawings.

Waterford Genealogical Society (WGS)
Afternoon meeting: Wednesday, July 3rd, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm - Community Room
Genealogy is the study of family ancestries and histories. The (WGS) meets on the 1st Wednesday afternoon of the month in the Library’s Community Room. All are welcome to attend.
Evening meeting: No meetings in July or August
A meeting of The Waterford Genealogical Society online via Zoom. All are welcome to attend. If you wish to attend you must register and enter your email address so we can send you the zoom link. Please register before 5pm of the day of the meeting. Julia Hanneman-Schoenbach moderates the meetings. Meets online the second Tuesday of each month except in July and August.

Library Garden Club

Both beginners and experienced gardeners welcome.
During the growing season, March through November, work bees are held to keep up with gardening tasks required in the beds in front of the library, usually followed by educational seminars.

Quick and Easy Summer Meals with Mary Spencer

Join Mary Spencer, owner of Taste: A Cook’s Place in Northville, for a cooking demonstration on quick and easy summer meals. Mary will prepare two recipes for the audience to sample. The recipes will be orzo salad with shrimp and lemon dressing and skillet lasagna with sausage and peppers. Registration required
