Fisher Law Practice, P.C.
The Law Offices of Genesis Fisher, Esq.
Workplace Conflict Resolution, Coaching &
Communication Workshops

Greetings!

I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted. The first three weeks of this year felt like a 2020 encore we NEVER asked for. If 2020 were a band, I would tell them that the cheers at the end of their show was relief that it was over, not requests for more!

Still, I felt like I had to survive 2020 to be able to fully reflect on that dystopian year. So much was out of our control. So I had to focus on what I could control and what I could contribute. Both roads led to Fisher Law Practice.

Last year, like most small businesses, we faced setbacks. When COVID hit, several projects were put on hold or cancelled because of the economic downturn. We didn't slink back, though. In a time when so many people were struggling, frustrated and vulnerable, conflict resolution was needed more than ever. We stepped up. We created guides to help businesses better support their staff. We organized a webinar series to keep folks connected and share valuable information. We created a COVID Workplace Dialogue series to facilitate conversations about everything from dealing with loss to the added pressures at home. We created a Leadership Dialogue Series to teach employees how to be facilitators and lead discussions following our core curriculum. We created virtual versions of our Identity and Inclusion and Basic Mediation workshops.

We worked with businesses (media, finance, organic toys, and literature) and organizations (supportive housing, social services, and public interest law). We helped their employees clear the air, communicate more effectively and repair relationships. We helped individuals, families and co-founders talk through tough issues. We helped everyone learn about each other and about themselves.

Lastly, we added seven new contractors and two phenomenal interns! Hand-picked conflict resolvers with NGO, legal, tech and corporate backgrounds.

What does all of this mean?

In 2020, Fisher Law Practice helped nearly 400 people in six countries!
We made a real difference in people's lives. This is what they told us:

"Genesis is extremely adept at turning seemingly intractable situations into areas of healing and growth. Our organization is stronger thanks to Genesis, since her work has allowed us all to focus on achieving our mission together. "

"It's been so hard. This [FLP Leadership] program is the thing holding my staff together. It's the bright light of the week for them."

----------------

Yesterday was so inspiring. Today feels like the real start to 2021. This year, Fisher Law Practice is committed to helping TWICE as many people feel heard and supported!

Purge that 2020 Energy with These 5 Refreshers

  • Smudge: Burn sage in each room of your home, the doorway, over your bed, and around your body.

  • 48 hr Social Media Break: Turn off notifications, close the apps and enjoy the (mental) silence.

  • Walk/Breath/Sound: Sometimes we hold stress in our core. Find a place where you can walk around with some privacy. As you walk, exaggerate your breath OUT by activating your diaphragm. On the exhale, release that tension in your gut and let out whatever sounds feel natural. It could be deep sighs, growls, or even singing. But the combo of the breathing and sound help release deep tension. I use this technique to recover after a contentious mediation session.

  • Joy Day: For one day (morning and afternoon), only do the things that bring you pure joy. Forget about the dishes, the errands, and the "shoulds." Live in the Id. Let your kids eat whatever they want and cuddle up with them for a candy buffet movie marathon. Go for a frivolous day trip. Have virtual cocktail making party with your friends. Break out that painting easel. Tell your partner you're spending the day in bed with a trashy book and bottomless hot toddies. With mental space comes joy and with joy, the healing properties of laughter.

  • T-Shirt Tear: Get a cheap white t-shirt and some permanent markers. Make a couple small cuts in the front collar. Use the markers to write down the events and experiences that annoyed or frustrated you in 2020. Then put the shirt on and literally tear it off, like you're emerging from it and throw it down. Yell "Bye 2020!" It's a little silly. It's also very cathartic. And so much fun to do as a family.

The Vengeful Adversary: Dirty Tactics and How to Fight Them Off

Our adversaries are getting more and more comfortable coloring outside the lines. Filing defamation cases based on demand letters, naming us attorneys in litigation to conflict us out, threatening extortion claims, are all creative ways that defense is trying to scare us in a misguided attempt to fend off meritorious cases. New SLAPP legislation can help, but only if you know how to use it. Don’t let sharp practice stop you from making big monetary demands, asserting aggressive claims, or speaking out on your client’s behalf.

In this four-part series, we’ll dive into common extra-meritorious threats and claims that our adversaries have been weaponizing. Panelists include Susan Crumiller, the founder of Crumiller P.C., the feminist litigation firm, and Carrie Goldberg, the founder of C.A. Goldberg, PLLC, the victims rights law firm, plus a special guest in Part IV (read on)......

Part I: Defamation/ SLAPP (1 skills credit)
January 21, 2021
6 – 7:30 PM Eastern

We’ll discuss the elements of a defamation claim, common trends in defamation litigation like defendants ignoring litigation privilege, as well as practical strategies for avoiding and defending these claims. We’ll examine Cuomo’s new SLAPP legislation and how you can use it, as well as a few recent case studies, including the Arroyave litigation. This will include a collaborative strategy- and resource-sharing discussion.

Susan and Carrie are my friends. I'm registered! Will you join me?
