Preparation for the Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado, is in full swing, and I’d like to encourage all of you to register and start making travel plans for the meeting. Our President-elect and Program Chair, Dr. Ashley Hill, and the Program Committee are putting together an outstanding plenary session and scientific programs. This year, the Foundation Dinner and Auction is on Halloween, and we’re looking forward to the Halloween-themed event planned by the Foundation Committee. The Keynote event at the President’s Dinner will be an informal chat with some of the titans of AALVD and USAHA. These leaders will be sharing anecdotes and observations from a lifetime of serving our organizations and the veterinary profession. I hope to see you there!!

Next month, be on the lookout for ballots for Board of Directors positions. The Northcentral and Southcentral regions will be voting on regional representatives, and all members will be voting for a new Vice President. Many thanks to the committees that identified the candidates, and thanks to the candidates for their willingness to contribute their time and energy to our organization. Our organization is volunteer-run, and we depend on all of our members to input and support to keep us working for all.

Of note, our Government Relations Committee, led by Co-chairs Bruce Akey and Keith Poulsen, has spent countless hours working with Brad Mollet and leaders from USAHA, NASAHO, AVMA, and industry groups to bring our concerns about funding and federal support to Congress and the Secretary of Agriculture. Their work directly influenced the release of funding for many of our level-1 NAHLN labs just days before the previous contracts expired. It has been a challenging year for many labs, and I am so grateful for the work they have put in to support us all.

I hope all of you can take some downtime this summer, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in Denver!

AAVLD Website Optimization - Request for Proposal

Background

The American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) has a website for enhanced communications with organization members, affiliated organizations, and the public.

https://www.aavld.org/

The platform for the AAVLD website is powered by MemberClicks.

https://memberclicks.com/

The Goal of this RFP is to solicit and contract with a vendor to review the AAVLD website, provide feedback that addresses the points below, and update the website. If the website review and update prove satisfactory, there is the possibility of further contracting with the vendor to provide regular website updates with continued maintenance as a webmaster.

Specific Tasks Required for this RFP:

1. Review of the current AAVLD website for simplicity, readability, accessibility (ADA), and usability (ease of use).

2. Outline approaches to improve website simplicity, screen readability of content by users, accessibility/readability on mobile devices, accessibility (ADA), and usability (ease of use).

3. Assess whether the proposed changes can be done within the current platform (MemberClicks). If not, provide approaches to optimize the website on an alternative platform.

4. Provide the one-time review and website update.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?

Additional Questions:

1. Can your company provide regular website evaluation, recommendations, and updates?

Bid for Work:

A bid for work will be submitted by the vendor.

Proposals are to be sent to Stephen Hooser (shooser1@purdue.edu) and Grant Burcham (gburcham@purdue.edu) by email.

Proposals will be accepted until August 15, 2025.

All proposals received by our deadline will be reviewed, but no proposal will necessarily be accepted.

Editor’s Note: Feel free to share this RFP from the Communications Committee with any website management companies in your region. DHZ

The Nebraska Veterinary Diagnostic Center and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln hosted a visit from the Kingdom of Thailand’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Dr. Suriya Chindwongse, and Consul-General Katanawadee Kalayanamit. They were interested to learn more about the role Nebraska and Veterinary Diagnostic Labs serve in enhancing US agriculture and technology, while connecting with the Thai community in Lincoln as part of a tour to visit all 50 states.

Canine polyostotic B-cell lymphoma: a case with clinical, immunohistochemical, and flow cytometric characterization, and review of the literature,

Matthew Kornya, Connor Bryant, Brandon Lillie, Sebastien Sanz, Kristiina Ruotsalo, Dorothee Bienzle

Abstract. An 8-mo-old Mastiff-cross dog with bone pain and lytic-proliferative lesions in the radius, ulna, femur, vertebral spinous processes, and ribs, was diagnosed with lymphoma. The dog also had anemia and thrombocytopenia, and atypical circulating lymphocytes were identified as B cells by flow cytometry. Due to the multicentric, rapidly progressive disease, the dog was euthanized. Postmortem examination confirmed extensive bone replacement by lymphoma, and infiltration of lymph nodes, spleen, and liver. Histomorphology and immunohistochemistry showed a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma that was immunopositive for PAX5 and CD20, and immunonegative for CD3. Lymphoma of bone is rare in dogs and humans, and is most frequently reported in pediatric individuals. Including our case, 7 of 14 reported cases occurred in dogs <2-y-old, and all but 1 had polyostotic disease. Long bones, ribs, and vertebrae were affected most often, and the distal metaphyseal region was targeted in long bones. Visceral and nodal tissue infiltration was common, and all tumors had a diffuse architecture. More
