Senior Programs in Yorba Linda

The City of Yorba Linda offers a variety of classes, activities, and information for adults ages 50 and older. These provide opportunities for older adults to meet new people, master new skills, and stay mentally and physically fit!

Teen Nerf Night

Friday, September 6 | 6-7:30 p.m.

Battle it out with NERF! The Yorba Linda Middle School Field will be transformed into a battleground of fun. Participants must provide their own NERF guns and protective eyewear; darts will be provided by Parks and Rec staff. Remember to label your belongings. Participants will compete in a variety of games including Capture the Flag, Team Elimination and Free for All. To register, visit YLRecOnline.com using the activity #24174. $10 per person. Alchemy Theatre Company and the Yorba Linda Cultural Arts Center have partnered up to bring you, Puffs or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.

For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs... who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world. Puffs is a Potter inspired comedy for anyone who has ever felt like a secondary character in someone else's story.

Family Art Experience

Saturday, September 21

Time slots between 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

Family ART Experience at the Yorba Linda Cultural Arts Center is a series of workshops designed for families to engage in art experiences and exploration together. Each month will feature a new art form for your family to try together. This month, friendship bracelets will be made! Movies in the Park

Saturday, September 21 | Movie starts at Dusk

Come join us at Eastside Community Park to enjoy a special screening of Kung Fu Panda 4. Enjoy a Saturday evening in the park while watching a family-friendly movie on our 20ft inflatable movie screen. No pre-registration required. Make sure to bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating and some snacks! The movie will start at dusk; approximately 7:15 p.m.

Explore the ways media and social media influence YOUTH! Learn ways to read the hidden messages advertisers and "influencers" use to sell their products and how alcohol and drug use is glamorized. Sign up for this interactive workshop today!

By the Light of the Moon; Spooky Art

The Yorba Linda Cultural Arts Center is currently welcoming art proposals for our upcoming exhibit, "By the Light of the Moon" showcasing spooky art. If you are an artist looking to share your spooky artwork, we invite you to submit your work by September 6. The selected pieces will be featured in our exhibit from September 30 to November 7, featuring a gallery reception on Thursday, October 17.

Community Volunteer Program

9-12th Grade Students

Join the City of Yorba Linda's Community Volunteer Program! Each month there will be various opportunities for volunteer hours. Activities vary; in the past they included special events, youth sports, and senior citizen program assistance. Applications are available online at yorbalindaca.gov, or call 714-961-7192 for more information on how to get involved.

Yorba Linda Parks & Recreation is excited to offer a more streamlined registration process for select multi-day activities, including Parent Toddler Art Time, Family Art Experience and some summer programs. To use the system:

Sign in to your ActiveNet account at YLRecOnline.com and select "Activities."
Search for the activity by course # or title. Select "Enroll Now."
Select the participant you are enrolling.
Use the drop-down menu to select the session time for the session you are enrolling.
Select each date you would like to register for, using the calendar. Scroll between months using the arrows.
After selecting all dates, select "Add to Cart" and complete check-out.

Sign Up for Community Emergency Response Team Training

Mark your calendars for the next CERT Training! The Yorba Linda Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills. The goal of Yorba Linda CERT is to provide citizens with the basic skills to protect themselves, their families, and their neighbors in the aftermath of a disaster. As a CERT volunteer, you can help by responding to the immediate needs of your neighborhood following an event when professional emergency responders are not immediately available to help. The City's next CERT Training opportunity starts in October 2024. All Shook Up

October 11 - 20

It's 1955, and into a square little town in a square little state rides a guitar-playing young man who changes everything and everyone he meets. Loosely based on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, this hip-swiveling, lip curling musical fantasy will have you jumpin' out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as "Heartbreak Hotel", "Hound Dog", "Jailhouse Rock", and "Don't Be Cruel." This is the inaugural production from the Yorba Linda Spotlight Players, a community theater group that is a partnership between the Yorba Linda Spotlight Theater Company and the Yorba Linda Parks and Recreation Department.

Shows will be held Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays starting October 11 to October 20. Ticket sales will open August 11 at PurplePass.com/YLAllShookUp.

Bite of Reality

Saturday, October 12 | 10 - 11:30 a.m,

Teens, join a hands-on "real-world" experience of the financial realities of being an adult. Via a smartphone app, you will be given a fictional occupation, income, and various debts. Participants must use their budget to purchase life's needs including housing, transportation, groceries, clothing, entertainment, child care and household items. This fun, interactive program will teach you how to spend wisely, distinguish needs from wants, and budget properly. Refreshments will be provided. Please bring your smartphone. Learn about cannabis/marijuana, alcohol, opioids/fentanyl as well as refusal skills. The value of the ways of living a drug-free lifestyle are also covered. Part-Time Senior Recreation Leader

This is a part-time position under the general supervision of the Recreation Specialist, Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Supervisor. Responsibilities include assisting in the daily operations of parks and recreation facilities including preparing facility and room setups, monitoring facility rentals, and assisting in the planning, organizing, implementing, and leading a variety of recreation activities, and special events for youth, teen, adult, and the older adult population.
