What is your personal/professional story?
My personal story begins with the earliest days of my childhood when financial hardship wasn't just a concept; it was a daily reality that defined my family's life. I vividly remember the rainy days of my youth. There were numerous times in which I would ask my family for new shoes as my shoes would have holes in them, but each time I mustered the courage to ask my parents for new shoes, they would tell me "next week" but "next week" became a recurring echo of unfulfilled promises. This wasn't just about footwear; it was a constant reminder of our struggles and the pain of my family's financial hardship.
This early chapter of my life wasn't something I could easily shake off. Instead, it ignited a fire within me - a determination to ensure that no child or family would ever have to endure the kind of hardship that was all too familiar to me. It was this resolve that steered me toward a career in wealth management. My mission became clear: to be an advocate and a guide for families, helping them build a foundation of wealth and opportunities that I never had.
What key moments in your life led you to where you are today?
My mother's enduring words have always been a beacon for me. Her life spent cleaning houses to support us, was paired with a powerful message: a few years of hard work and dedication could change my entire trajectory. Her advice wasn't just words; it was a lifeline during my tumultuous transition to the University of Southern California. As a transfer student, I found myself battling not just academic challenges but also a deep-seated imposter syndrome. The feeling of not belonging, coupled with the weight of adapting to an entirely new environment, tested my resolve like never before.
However, it was in the midst of these trials that my life took a pivotal turn. During my second year at USC, I met a VP from Citi Private Bank. I took a chance, shared my story, and asked for guidance. This moment of vulnerability wasn't easy, but it was transformative. It taught me the power of authenticity and the unexpected doors that can open when you share your truth. I learned that perfection isn't what connects us - it's the raw, unfiltered journeys that resonate and inspire.
Where does your passion to serve come from?
My drive to serve is deeply personal, stemming from the experiences of my childhood and the community that shaped me. Growing up in San Francisco, I didn't just hear about the struggles of gentrification; I lived them alongside my neighbors. The pain of watching friends and familiar faces being forced out of their homes left an indelible mark on my heart. It's a pain accompanied by a fierce determination to make a difference.
My passion is more than a career choice; it's a personal pledge. Every family I help, and every plan I craft, is a step toward righting the imbalances that I've witnessed firsthand. In every strategy and every piece of advice, there's a piece of my story, a shared understanding, and a promise of a better, more secure future.
