We are reaching out with an important and time-sensitive advocacy alert to support grandfamilies and kinship families nationwide.
We urge you to contact your Members of Congress today and ask them to provide continued funding for the National Technical Assistance Center on Grandfamilies and Kinship Families in the fiscal year (FY) 2027 appropriations bill. Generations United's Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network (Network) serves as the National Technical Assistance Center on Grandfamilies and Kinship Families.
After being established by Congress in 2021, the Network's initial five years of federal funding are coming to an end. Without renewed investment, this critical resource and the support it provides to programs serving kinship and grandfamilies could be at risk.
The Network has helped professionals across all 50 states, Tribes, and territories strengthen supports for kinship families. It provides critical information, resources, training, and technical assistance that help programs effectively respond to the complex needs of the families they serve. Although the Network is designed to help organizations that serve kinship families, it also offers a number of resources that can help kinship caregivers directly.
The Network also identifies and elevates exemplary programs and promising practices from across the country. By sharing what works, it helps ensure that kinship families—no matter where they live —have access to high-quality, effective support. This national exchange of knowledge strengthens the entire field and improves outcomes for families.
Congress needs to hear directly from kin caregivers and organizations like yours about the value of the Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network, and the importance of sustaining its work as the National Technical Assistance Center on Grandfamilies and Kinship Families. Please take a few minutes to make your voice heard.
