It's Revolution Time!

During the last two weeks, we partnered with the Custom House Maritime Museum on a major exhibition of Newburyport's Revolutionary War artifacts and stories, rolled our "Revolution Time" float up Federal and down State Street (even the streets are Revolutionary around here!), and secured funding for another year of MA250 Revolutionary programming.

So we're taking a day off.

As we go into this holiday weekend, we encourage you to consider the experience of Newburyporters two and a half centuries ago, before July 4 was a date of such significance, when the British army and navy still occupied Boston and Portsmouth, and the town contemplated an uncertain future. How would you have felt as we continued down the Road to Revolution? Let's explore it together over the coming year.

The museum is closed on July 4, but will be open this weekend for tours on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Here's a preview of some of the Revolutionary stories we have to share with you.

And here's a few of our favorite images (and one cool video, thanks to Sierra Gitlin), from Newburyport's Road to Revolution Parade on June 28.

Spinach & Berry Summer Salad

Spinach and berry salad is a perfect summer salad recipe for a late evening dinner or beautiful addition to a picnic- and it takes just a few minutes to make. Fresh strawberries, raspberries or blackberries and blueberries are mixed with baby spinach, rich goat cheese, red onions and pecans, and paired with a tangy balsamic vinaigrette.

Ingredients:

·    8 cups baby spinach, washed and well rinsed (arugula works too)

·    1 cup strawberries, sliced

·    2/3 cup raspberries or blackberries

·    2/3 cup blueberries

·    1/2 cup goat cheese, crumbled

·    1/3 cup red onion, thinly sliced

·    1/2 cup pecans, roughly chopped

·    Balsamic vinaigrette, salt and pepper to taste

Enjoy!
