Pastor Trudy's Message

Still re-forming! Reformation day acknowledges a real event that happened on October 31, 1517. A Catholic professor, pastor and theologian named Martin Luther issued a formal protest against his church by nailing up 95 Theses on the door of the church in Wittenberg, Germany. Most of the issues Martin Luther raised have been resolved, but new issues continue to arise challenging us to continue to live with a constantly reforming Spirit. This week our preacher is The Rev. Dr. Rafael Malpica Padilla, who has seen this reforming work in action working for ELCA Global missions, as a Bishop and pastor, and as a professor at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.

Reforming God, We are always growing, always learning, always reforming. You call us through Your Word to carry the reforming Spirit into our world. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WONDERING...

Real questions from real people to learn more about faith.

How then should we pray?

Last Chance! October is Pastor Appreciation Month! This is the last weekend that you can leave PT a note (or doodle!) of gratitude. Leave your note in the jar in the narthex.

  • Instill in your people a mission of preservation and appreciation for trees, animals, and waterways threatened by climate collapse.
  • May the hearts of those who occupy seats of power be reformed so that peace becomes the center of our life together.
  • Comforting God, be with all who are sick, suffering, or grieving in our own community and beyond, especially Gloria Nephew and the family of Sue Gibbons Bethin, aunt of Adam Gibbons, who passed away on October 15.
  • Divine Guide, continue to challenge this community to be ever reforming in our ministries and outreach efforts.
  • May the truth of your saving grace through faith sustain our hope for life in you.

Into your hands, O God, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in the saving grace you freely give, both now and forever. Amen.

Many have asked about collections for Hurricane relief. ELCA pastors in North Carolina have been asking that people not send anything that is not specifically asked for and that monetary donations to local organizations is the best thing to do. Click HERE for a list of organizations from a pastor in North Carolina.

GLC's council met on October 15. New members were welcomed, Kraig Mickelsen was elected to a second term as President, Monica Noonan to a term as Vice President, and Sally Harmon as Secretary. Council brainstormed questions about the associate pastor position. Next step will be to form a team to explore the questions and possibilities for adding to GLC's pastoral staff.
