Why Women Leaders Will Play An Essential Role In 2025 And Beyond

Forbes ($)

During the pandemic, I wrote a book about women's leadership and why it matters. I explored the progress women have made in securing leadership roles since the 1970s, as well as why they continue to face obstacles on their way to the top. Since the book’s publication, women across the United States and globally have reached out to share accounts of their leadership journeys—and ongoing challenges—with me. Lately, these conversations have highlighted how women's greatest leadership qualities will play a key role in guiding organizations and entire sectors through the uncertain times ahead.Read more

Every Studio Film Directed by Female Filmmakers Coming Out in 2025 and 2026

IndieWire

Of 112 directors analyzed as part of the pool (for the top 100 grossing movies of 2024), 13.4 percent or 15 were women, nearly equivalent to 2023’s 12.1 percent. Though there has been progress since 2007, when 2.7 percent of directors were women, in 18 years, only 6.5 percent of directors were women. Our first crack at this year’s list (including the “Big Five,” plus mini-majors Lionsgate and MGM) isn’t too exciting or edifying. While there are a number of exciting new films from female filmmakers (and lots of horror offerings, especially), as of this writing, there are no women directing films like, oh, the next run of Marvel movies or the latest iteration of the DC universe. How The Equality Lounge In Davos Became The Place To Be Seen And Heard

Forbes ($)

If you want to see the power of perseverance, look no farther than Shelley Zalis. Ten years ago, her invite to Davos, Switzerland, to participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) came with a disclaimer: “You might not feel welcome,” due to the “boys’ club” environment that seemed prevalent at the time. On that day, she took a stand, and the result of her efforts led to the creation of the Equality Lounge at Davos. The participants and programming of which, would change the face and gender balance around one the most world’s powerful annual events. Read more

The Playlist Power Broker Who Makes or Breaks New Artists

Wall Street Journal ($)

Spotify is known for its algorithmic recommendations, but Sulinna Ong brings a human touch to finding new hit. Every day, no matter where she is, Ong puts away her phone, turns off all notifications and lies down on the floor for three hours to listen to new songs. Ong oversees 130 Spotify employees doing what the service’s powerful algorithms can’t: discovering the best new music and carefully introducing it on playlists to the listeners who are going to devour it.  Read more

How a Monument to Women Finally Won a Place on the National Mall

New York Times ($)

When completed, the Women’s Suffrage National Monument will be the first on the Mall honoring women and their history. But it could also very well be the last, given a 2003 law banning new monuments there. The site of the suffrage memorial has yet to be determined. And there is no design yet. But that its backers won a rare exception illustrates the complexities of navigating the intricate politics surrounding the most symbolically freighted patch of civic real estate in America. How Much Progress Have Women Made at Work?

New York Times ($)

During a task force discussion at the DealBook Summit, Jodi Kantor, an investigative reporter at The New York Times, asked nine business leaders and entrepreneurs to help make sense of the mixed moment for women in the workplace. She told them to rate the progress women have made on a scale of one to 10, with a rating of 10 suggesting “We’re doing brilliantly, we got there” and one suggesting “Things are really bad and we’re moving backwards.” The views were mixed, but nobody rated the situation higher than six. Here is how the panel responded. Read more

More Than a Program: A Culture of Women's Wellbeing at Work

Gallup

For many working women, trying to find balance between work and life feels like a perpetual tug-of-war with each side demanding an increased level of presence and attention. About one in six women (17%) report having to address personal or family responsibilities at work daily or several times a day (vs. 11% of men). Similarly, 18% of women say they need to address job-related responsibilities outside of working hours at least daily (vs. 15% of men). Women are also more likely to think about work during their personal time each day (39% of women vs. 37% of men). Read more
