Sometimes, Chemistry Does Last Forever

PFAS, or "forever chemicals," as they are commonly referred to in the news and media, are of growing concern to water and wastewater professionals due to regulatory drivers and peer-reviewed studies verifying negative impacts on human health. PFAS are a large group of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances that are known for their strong carbon-fluorine bonds, making them highly resilient and resistant to degradation, as well as repellent to oil and water. These same properties create significant challenges for water and wastewater treatment when capturing and disposing of PFAS.
