On Stage
We are very excited to launch the second half of our Forging A Way Forward season! A season dedicated to creating work and sharing current dialogue in the face of tremendous challenges. The College has been successfully offering in-person training since September, and is proud to have produced three productions, which have been seen virtually in as many as 38 cities across 3 countries! This season celebrates Canadian voices, while reflecting on the current world around us, and the significant challenges we have faced, met head on, and forged a way forward.
Falsework (March) re-imagines the poetry of a terrible tragedy, but, more importantly, the need to rebuild and rise again.
I Hope My Heart Burns First (March) is a moving and satirically funny look at some of the epidemics that have gone hand-in-hand with COVID in the last year, but have too often gone unnoticed - addiction, homelessness, and directionless youth looking for stability.
The Festival of New Works (April) is the culmination of months of preparation as our year II students add their distinctive voice to the creation process from a place of artistic leadership. This is a highlight in the college’s year, showcasing the variety and wealth of student talent, and the multidisciplinary commitment of our program
Urinetown (late May / early June) is a celebrated contemporary musical, as equally hilarious as it is unsettling, with timely commentary on societal issues such as the environment and the power of large corporations to control the 99%. It also takes a stab at the musical theater genre itself, promising to give us all the cathartic celebration we are so much in need of.

We hope in the coming months to welcome you back into our space – but for now, we thank you for welcoming our live streams into your homes. A year ago, we never would have imagined the immense reach our work could find - work that, at its core, is about creating beautiful, moving and very funny performances that speak to all of our humanity. In-person or from a distance, the power of storytelling is not diminished.
Please join our students in forging a way forward!

Now On Sale

Our Year II students are in the final rehearsal stretch for our 2020-21 Year II plays, and livestream tickets are now on sale. Each production has three performances taking place between March 10th and 13th, 2021. We can't wait to share these virtually with you.
Falsework
adapted from the book of poetry by
Gary Geddes
adapted for the stage and directed by
Christopher Weddell

On June 17, 1958, Vancouver’s Second Narrows Bridge collapsed while under construction. Eighteen men plunged to their deaths, and many others were injured. Falsework provides an elegiac portrait of the many lives affected by the crumpling of that seemingly indomitable structure. Balancing documentary and fiction, this premiere workshop production follows compelling characters through intimate vignettes as families and workers struggle to come to terms with this terrible accident.

I Hope My Heart Burns First
by Colleen Murphy

A gang of six break into a mansion looking to loot themselves out of a drug debt. Governor General's Award-winning playwright Colleen Murphy has crafted a black comedy full of youthful vigour that pushes resentment, violence, and class to an unavoidable emotional extreme. I Hope My Heart Burns First will take you to the edge of your seat, praying we all miss the head-on collision.

Wednesday, March 10th - 7:30pm
Friday, March 12th - 7:30pm
