Central School Building Project Update
-- August 28th, 2024
The East Bridgewater School Building Committee has received six proposals in late July for a feasibility study and schematic design for the Central Elementary School Building Project.
After reviewing each application, LeftField, our OPM (Town's Owner's Project Manager) and the members of the Building Committee have decided to shortlist the following architectural firms: Raymond Design Associates, Childs BertmanTsceckares and Kaestle Boos Associates.
The firms will be interviewed on September 10th and the committee will select one to sign a contract in late fall for the project.

Historical Tidbit:
645 Summer Street
| |
" Pictured is the Nathan Alden place from 1807 to 1852. Perhaps Squire Alden built the large part of the house, and an old part on the east side may have been the house of former owners, Lazell, Shaw, Kingsley, and Bonney. "
After Nathan Alden, it became the Alvarez Nash House "There were two stands of old elm trees in the Beaver section of town. The first was near the Beaver cemetery on Belmont Street. The other was located at the Nash house. "
The house, near 645 Summer Street, burned in 1907 or 1917.

Supporting the Community: East Bridgewater CERT's Vital Role
The East Bridgewater CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a volunteer-based organization that equips local residents with the training and skills necessary to assist during emergencies. CERT volunteers are trained in basic disaster response, including fire safety, search and rescue, and first aid.
CERT's is holding a food drive at the EBBA Expo on Sunday, September 22, 2024. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., collecting non-perishable food items, including canned goods, pasta, and other shelf-stable products, to help stock local food pantries. Community members are encouraged to stop by the CERT tent at the East Bridgewater Town Common to donate and make a difference.
If you're ready to serve your community, East Bridgewater CERT offers volunteer opportunities for residents. No prior experience is required—just a commitment to learning valuable skills and helping those in need. Volunteers can attend training sessions and participate in both emergency response and community outreach activities. Whether you want to be involved in disaster response or help with planning events like the food drive, there's a place for you in CERT. To get started, visit the town’s emergency management office or reach out via the East Bridgewater CERT page for more information on upcoming training opportunities and how to apply.

Positive News from Our Librarians:
EB librarians unanimously ratified their first union contract.
"Congratulations to Teamsters Local 653 members at East Bridgewater (MA) Library who have their first Teamsters contract! These 10 workers now have a strong contract that includes scheduling and working protections, increased longevity, education incentives, better wages and the Juneteenth holiday.
As a group we were the only unit in town without a contract,” said Jennifer Finn, a 12-year-employee and shop steward. “There was no question who we wanted to represent us. The Teamsters did a fantastic job negotiating our contract and representing us at the table . We are proud to say we are now Teamsters !!!!”
This is the first union for the library which was built in 1896. Unions raise the bar for all employment as workers everywhere realize what makes a healthy working environment. Thank you for all of your hard work in keeping public libraries alive!

I find I have learned slowly the lessons that are deep and resounding... and each layer makes this life so RICH!!!
Most recently, I have learned giving time and thought and asking questions has allowed me to look at things from multiple angles.
Taking the quick judgement out, I can give caring and supportive responses. This has definitely helped my close relationships.
What did you learn today? ~ Jacquie
