Synopsis

Energy-intensive and mining customers are facing a rapidly changing electricity landscape. Decarbonisation commitments, growing reliance on renewable energy, and the transition toward a more liberalised electricity market are fundamentally reshaping how electricity is planned, procured, managed and governed.

At the heart of this transition lies data – real-time, validated and decision-ready. As customers integrate on-site generation, batteries, wheeling arrangements and power purchase agreements, the ability to accurately measure, forecast and optimise both demand and generation becomes business-critical.

This challenge intensifies further in a market moving toward hourly trading, dynamic pricing and active portfolio management, where poor data quality or weak forecasting can translate directly into financial underperformance.

This hybrid event, hosted by EE Business Intelligence in association with Samancor, Florion, Switch, Energy Partners and Webber Wentzel, brings together technology, commercial strategy and legal insight to address these challenges head-on.

The event will explore how software and data solutions can support energy-intensive users across the electricity value chain – from real-time data acquisition and forecasting, to performance tracking, budget management and optimisation of renewable and conventional supply portfolios.

Importantly, it recognises that no single software platform can meet all client needs, and instead examines how complementary systems can work together to deliver meaningful business outcomes.

The programme concludes with a practical legal overview of the types of contractual complexities and disputes increasingly arising between generators, IPPs, traders, utilities and off-takers in this evolving market. It will highlight how robust data, clear contractual frameworks and informed risk allocation can prevent disputes – or resolve them efficiently when they occur.
