Standing with Our Veterans: Raising Awareness for PTSD

June is Veterans PTSD Awareness Month — a time to recognize the invisible wounds of war and support the mental health of the brave men and women who have served our country.

The Warren County Foundation is proud to partner with the Warren County Veterans Suicide Prevention Coalition to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and connect veterans to life-saving resources.

Warren County Veterans Suicide Prevention Coalition

The Warren County Veterans Suicide Prevention Coalition is a nonprofit organization formed in December 2021. The Coalition was established through a collaboration between the Warren County Veterans Services and the Countryside YMCA, with guidance and support from the Dayton VA Medical Center and the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Warren and Clinton Counties.

Did you know:

  • Warren County veterans are 3.1 times more likely to die by suicide than non-veteran residents.
  • An estimated 135 individuals are impacted by one suicide death.
  • 65% of veterans who died by suicide in 2019 did not have a VA appointment in a year or more.
  • Most veterans who die by suicide are not under the care of the VA.
  • Death by Suicide is 100% preventable. We can't stop veteran Suicide deaths without community support.

Mission:

Prevent the suicide deaths of service members, veterans & their family by supporting them where they live, work, and play. We accomplish this with our community partners, through raising awareness, education, outreach and the implementation of prevention strategies.
