Superstitious Presidents in Love?

Friday the 13th, Valentine’s Day, and Presidents' Day rolled into one long weekend! So many things to cover!

Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day. This has its roots in both Christianity and Norse mythology. There can be up to three thirteenth Fridays in a year, and this year we are “lucky”! We have three: February 13, March 13, and November 13.

Valentine’s Day has morphed into a really expensive date night! My cousin proposed to his now wife on Valentine’s Day, as have many others. However, the origins are less romantic. Poor Saint Valentine was executed by Roman Emperor Claudius II for opposing a ban on marriage for young soldiers and for not renouncing his Christian faith.

Presidents’ Day is a much newer holiday.  When I was a child, we celebrated Abraham Lincoln’s birthday on February 12 and George Washington’s birthday on February 22. It was great! Two holidays in February! In 1971, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed in Congress, merging the February birthdays of both Lincoln and Washington and celebrating all presidents, past and present on the third Monday of the month.  Washington’s birthday became a Federal holiday in 1849 and is still the term for the official Federal holiday in February; South Carolina and many other states also refer to this holiday as Presidents’ Day. While Lincoln’s birthday was never a federal holiday, it was celebrated in many states and is still observed in a few of them today.

This weekend, we are looking forward to having a four-day weekend, sort of like celebrating two holidays in February!

Enjoy Winter Break!

Blessings,

Betsy

We can't wait to see everyone this March!

Uniforms!
We're in the coldest time of the year, so it's important for our students to stay warm -- especially when they're outside for recess. In addition, as our students have grown since the start of school, several of them have begun to outgrow their shirts, shorts, and skirts.

With many students wearing identical school-branded items that end up in our lost and found, please be sure your child's Trident gear is labeled with their name.

Re-Enrollment Period: February 2026

Re-enrollment invitations for 2026-27 were emailed to current 1st-11th grade parents on Tuesday, February 3. If for some reason you did not receive this email or the February 12 reminder, please contact Director of Enrollment Erik Kreutner (ekreutner@tridentacademy.com). Thanks to the families who have already submitted their children's re-enrollment information!

We have started accepting new students for next year, and it will be important for us to know how many students we can accept. We are grateful that our parents continue to entrust their children's education to Trident Academy!

WHAT'S HAPPENING ON CAMPUS:

Dr. Randy sent his hygienist to show us how to brush our teeth and what to expect when you go to the dentist. We learned a fun fact- the toothpaste they used is made from volcanic rocks!

Five senses, one delicious lesson! Mrs. Strouse and Miss Grip’s ELA students recently hosted a "Poetry Cafe" to showcase their work on imagery.

Each student authored an original poem describing a specific food or drink using sensory details. After sharing their poems with the class, everyone got to enjoy a taste of the treats mentioned! There’s nothing like a little "flavor" to make descriptive writing stick.

What a beautiful week for our tennis team to take to the courts!

A huge thank you to the Seahawk grandmother who visited our art classes to teach us about sewing and collage. Our students are currently "stitching together" some breathtaking Lowcountry scenes for our Oyster Roast auction. Make sure you come to the Oyster Roast to see the final product!

Our High School students are channeling Chuck Close for their latest self-portrait project. Close is known for his "building block" style, and our students are mastering that same meticulous method—creating complex portraits one square at a time. It’s a masterclass in focus, color theory, and perspective.
