Many people don't realize it, but the Alabama border is closer than you think. From my home in Columbia, TN it is less than an hour to the Alabama border. I am starting to show more and more clients homes/land near or just across the border. I'm also seeing clients who currently live in the fast growing Huntsville area looking to relocate across the border into Tennessee.
I recently went ahead and got my Real Estate license in Alabama and as that has been brought up in conversation the first question from most folks has been "Why?"
The truth is, I have been thinking about getting my license in Alabama for a while now. I had a client a few years ago who had me list their home here in Tennessee with plans to buy a lake house down in North Alabama. The client asked if I happened to have my license in Alabama as well and that got the wheels turning. I ended up not going forward with it at the time and instead connected them to an agent in their search area but it has stayed in the back of my mind.
In the meantime, I ended up getting my license in Wisconsin and my brother and I started our short-term rental business there. We finished up construction on our second STR property earlier this year and don't currently have plans for our next project until at least next year.
Then, it just so happened that I recently started getting more and more clients looking for property farther south in Tennessee. Some of these were even considering both Alabama and Tennessee as options. At first I tried to just assist them here in Tennessee and connect them with a Realtor to assist in North Alabama, but when I was unable to connect with any Realtors that seemed committed to helping my clients. I decided it was time to go ahead and follow through with what I had thought about doing 3+ years ago. So, I took the necessary courses, paid the necessary fees, and now am a licensed agent in Alabama.
Having multiple licenses allows me to serve my clients better and make sure they are taken care of whether it be here in Tennessee or down in Alabama or even in Wisconsin. So if there's ever anything I can do for you or your friends and family in TN, AL, or WI don't hesitate to reach out!
