I recently wrote about putting more colorful fruits and veggies in our diet and we took a look at the deep red colorful beets. This time let’s take a look at one of my favorite snack type fruits, the blueberry, known for among other health rewards, especially good for our brain.
Nutritional intervention with fruits and vegetables may play a significant role in reversing some of the effects of aging, especially in our brains as well helping to prevent disease.
Research has shown that berry fruits especially blueberries appear to improve neurological functioning and age-related neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson’s & Alzheimer’s to name two). These effects are related to the many phytochemicals (plant chemicals) they contain such as multiple anthocyanins, quercetin, catechin and others. By adding more of this low calorie, nutrient -dense, deep dark blue little fruit, we may aid our brain functioning including our memory.
