Could Nyungwe be Africa's Next Big Attraction?
Come and Explore one of Africa's Oldest Rainforests
|
|
Greetings from Kigali!
This month, we are showcasing Nyungwe National Park, one of the oldest and best-preserved rainforests on the African continent, whose landscape features dense Afromontane forests, bamboo-covered slopes, grasslands and wetlands. Nyungwe National Park is home to 75 mammal species, 13 primate species, 1,068 plant species, 322 bird species, and this magnificent park also feeds the Congo and the Nile, two of the world's largest rivers.
The park offers a great selection of activities for visitors to enjoy, including:
- hiking along numerous trails, which include tracking a quarter of all of Africa's primates, such as chimpanzees and colobus monkeys
- spotting endemic and migratory birdlife, including the ross turaco, grey-cheeked hornbill, red-breasted sparrow hawk and regal sunbird
- traversing the canopy walkway, a high suspension bridge which provides an amazing perspective on the ancient treetops and wildlife
- enjoying a new zip line and rope course, which is due to be opened in 2023
According to the grapevine, Nyungwe National Park is considering the (re-)introduction of select wildlife species, such as elephants.
Effective 01 January 2023, the park fees are changing. Contact us for more information.
