Happy Manufacturing Month!
October is Manufacturing Month and Manufacturing Day 2022 is Friday, October 7! SFMade’s Bay Area Urban Manufacturing Initiative has one of the more detailed listing of events happening around the region, with a number of meetups, facility tours, and virtual events happening in the East Bay and elsewhere. East Bay EDA partners AMBayArea and Manex have additional Manufacturing Day information on their websites as well, all helping to shape and support the continued growth and strength of our region’s diverse and robust manufacturing industry!
Grant Funding & Access to Capital
Several grant deadlines are coming up for East Bay businesses and organizations, so take advantage of them now before it’s too late! Two programs currently operating in the region include The Microbusiness & Nonprofit COVID-19 Relief Grant for Alameda and Contra Costa Counties (deadline to apply is 10/19), and Comcast's RISE Investment Fund for Oakland businesses, which will close on 10/16.

For access to capital, Hello Alice's Small Business Growth Fund will close on 10/14, Verizon Small Business Digital Ready on 11/41, and AARP's Upskilling Program on 11/30. In addition to these programs, stay connected to us for a special announcement next week on at least one additional grant program in Alameda County!
Manufacturing Medical Equipment in the East Bay - Dr. Gregory Theyel
Medical equipment has been the leading biomedical manufacturing sector in the East Bay (Alameda and Contra Costa Counties) over the past 10 years. From 2012 to 2022, the net number of medical equipment companies grew from 184 to 204 for an increase of about 11%. However, the number of medical equipment employees in the East Bay grew from 14,303 to 17,656 or over 23%. Fremont Leads Nationwide Push in Battery Manufacturing
