March in NYC to Call on President Biden: Accelerate Climate Action!

Many hundreds of groups have endorsed this March, and more are being added every day, including WILPF US! You may read all about it here in the September WILPF eNews issue. Are you going to join this massive End Fossil Fuels March in New York City?

Help show our commitment to reducing climate catastrophe and the global unrest it creates! Turn out for the Sunday, September 17 march, joining in with other peace and climate justice activists!

  • It's not too late for you to make a plan!
  • For travel & logistics info and FAQs, go to www.endfossilfuels.us.

Many groups have designated specific “hubs” where they’ll meet, identified by signs and banners, and we urge WILPF members to march with the Anti-Militarism Hub which has been organized by CodePink and other peace/anti-war groups.

Note – Although the march starts at 1:00 pm, the Anti-Militarism Hub organizers suggest arriving, starting at 11:30 – for music, getting to know each other, and sharing chants. This hub meets at 54th Street, between Broadway and 7th Avenue, at the northeast corner. You will recognize this hub, which will be identified by a giant elephant (in the room!).

If you can’t go to the New York City march, please join an event or action where you live. Make your own sign – with messages such as No Wars, No Warming; U.S. Militarism Fuels Climate Crisis; Defund the Military – Fund Climate Justice, and others.

Be sure to send action pictures with the name (permission) of the photographer to Nancy Price at EarthDemocracy@wilpfus.org.

The Anti-Militarism Hub will include other groups which, like WILPF, are working to shift from a war economy to a peace economy. We’ve all campaigned to shift from war to peace and justice and from settling differences by armed violence, destruction and death to ceasefires, consultations and negotiated settlements.

These groups also embrace moving from continued extraction and use of fossil fuels to clean renewables and climate and environmental justice. These approaches are fundamental to creating peace.

Don’t forget: September 21 is the International Day of Peace

If you’re in the NY area, you can attend CodePink’s event on the 21st in NYC. Their event is an opportunity to join together with song, art, and community and make a big peace splash while the UN is in session.

And if you’re not in New York – be inspired by their example! Put together a local event for your area – and be sure to include opportunities for song, art, and community building.
