“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms … disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” —Cesare Beccaria

Homelessness in America
The History and Tragedy of an
Intractable Social Problem
The last thirty years have witnessed an urban renaissance in America. Major cities have managed to drive down the murder rate, improve the schools, restore the built environment, and revitalize their economies. Middle class families are putting down roots in neighborhoods once given up for dead. But solutions to homelessness have eluded even the most successful cities. While the South Bronx was once synonymous across the globe for “slum,” now, San Francisco and Los Angeles are just as internationally notorious for their homelessness crises. Indeed, the same cities with the worst homelessness crises rank among America’s most successful. One of the crisis’ more perplexing features is how cities that have met with so much success with respect to economic development, crime and public education have failed to even ease their homelessness crisis, much less end it.
In Homelessness in America, Stephen Eide examines the history, governmental and private responses, and future prospects of this intractable challenge. The “chronic” nature of the challenge should be understood, he argues, by reference to American history and American ideals. The history of homelessness is bound up with industrialization and urbanization, the closing of the West, the Great Depression, and the post WWII decline and subsequent revival of great American cities. Though we’ve used different terms (“tramp” “hobo” “bum”) at other times, something like homelessness has always been with us and the debate over causes and solutions has always involved conflicts over fundamental values. After explaining why homelessness persists in America and correcting popular misconceptions about the issue, Eide offers concrete recommendations for how we can do better for the homeless population.
Homelessness in America engages readers by answering the most common questions their audience brings to the topic and exploring other questions that are no less important for being not as commonly asked. Homelessness intersects with multiple other policy areas: education, urban development, criminal justice reform, mental health. By exploring the intersection of homelessness with so many other policy areas, this book aspires to provide a comprehensive account of the challenge.....

Town Cancels Drag Show For Kids, Citing Safety Concerns
The City of Jasper, Indiana, along with the Dubois County Pride committee, canceled its “Family Friendly Drag Show” over safety concerns after the event was shared by the Libs of TikTok Twitter account.
An online advertisement for the June 24 event, which Libs of TikTok shared, encouraged attendees to bring cash for tips and emphasized that the event was for all ages. Despite the cancellation of the drag show, the Dubois County Pride in the Park event will otherwise continue as planned, with food trucks, a pool party, a circus and a glow dance party in a local park, according to a Wednesday announcement by Dubois County Pride.....

Communist China's Global Plan Emerges
Communist China's violations of Taiwanese airspace and sea space are a physical indication Beijing targets Taiwan as the world's next Ukraine.
At the tactical level -- the level where a shooter seeks a target -- Beijing's sorties probe Taiwan's frontline air and sea defenses, seeking weaknesses and assessing reaction time.
At the strategic level -- the Big Picture, which includes diplomacy and economics -- the in-and-out feints of Beijing jets and fast attack warships test Taiwan's allies. The feints ask this question: Do Taiwan's alleged allies have the will to help the island resist a mainland Chinese assault?

BLM Is Silent on the Top Killer of Black Kids
Guns are the leading cause of death among children, new CDC statistics show. But while the horrific massacre in a Texas elementary school rightly outrages the nation, such mass shootings are not the primary reason for that grim statistic.
Most young people killed by guns are shot in gang violence or other crime — which has only gotten worse since the George Floyd race riots and their long anarchic aftermath.
Homicides of youth between the ages of 10 and 17 rose 47% in 2020. That 47% increase far outpaced the record-breaking 29% spike in post-Floyd homicides across all age groups in 2020.....

Biden Administration Implements a Racial Spoils System
The Biden administration is doubling down on the color-conscious policies that were the hallmark of its first year in office through a series of “action plans,” which it released through every executive bureaucracy last month. Only this time, in a bid to avert legal reversals, the administration is concealing its racial spoils system under bureaucratic euphemisms.
As we explain in a new report, the administration’s 25 plans will implement discrimination as the official policy of the executive branch; make the government much less efficient; award contracts to uncompetitive bidders, thereby wasting taxpayer money, impair national defense, and further hamper the drive for.....

Canada’s Crackdown on Guns Sounds a Warning for Us
“Other than using firearms for sport shooting and hunting, there is no reason anyone in Canada should need guns in their everyday lives.”
That’s what Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at a press conference Monday when announcing a proposed law that would ban the sale of handguns in his country. The move followed the horrific shooting at an Uvalde, Texas, elementary school that left 19 children and two teachers dead.
Is the right to bear arms really about hunting and sport? Is it a quirk of the American system and nothing more?
The Canadian measure, if passed, would prevent the importing, buying, or selling of handguns, with only ....

California Court Rules That Bumblebees Are Fish
If a man can be a woman, then it stands to reason that a bumblebee can be a fish:
California’s endangered species law protects any “bird, mammal, fish, amphibia or reptile” declared to be endangered. Since bees clearly are not birds, mammals, amphibia, or reptiles, they must be fish.
A fundamental law of California politics is that farmers are always wrong and need to be punished.
The Third District Court of Appeal in Sacramento ruled that any imperiled invertebrate can be counted as a fish, despite fish not being invertebrates.
You follow the logic, right? Or do you hate the planet?....
If Bees Can Now Legally Be Fish, Then I'm Legally Rich
Bees are proof that in America we have the power to be anything we want. Even if it’s something we’re literally not.

George Bush-era documents reveal government plans for apocalyptic events that include a “kill switch and detentions”
A newly uncovered document is providing the latest proof why the Washington establishment and deep state swamp hate Donald Trump — because he truly represents We the People, America First, and is not a calculating, closet authoritarian.
Until Trump, we elected stereotypical Democrats and Republicans who appeared to be political opponents but really weren’t. Cases in point: George H. W. Bush teamed up with Bill Clinton on Global Initiatives, while Bush’s son, George W., the 43rd president, has also formed a bond with Clinton, one of the most corrupt men ever to sit in the Oval Office. And all three of them have also joined Barack Obama at times on other global initiatives.
The point is, Trump isn’t like that: He’s not a ‘team’ player, which is to say, he’s not on the deep state team. ....

Revealed: How the U.S. Government Pays to Bus In Thousands of Migrants over the Southern Border Daily
U.S. border officials are quietly bussing a vast flood of wage-cutting, rent-spiking migrants into Americans’ towns and cities, despite the court-ordered preservation of the Title 42 barrier.
“It’s like 8,000 to 9,000 a day now,” and there are more on the way, migration monitor Todd Bensman told Breitbart News.
U.S. border chief Alejandro Mayorkas and his pro-migration deputies are using the Title 42 barrier to send some Central American single men and families back to Mexico. But Mayorkas is cutting loopholes in the barrier to place everyone else on government-funded buses to cities and towns around the United States, said Bensman, who works for the Center for Immigration Studies.
They’re [letting in] people from the Middle East, Asia, Africa — the extra-continentals — and also .....

See What Happens to Abortion State by State If Roe v. Wade Is Overturned
If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, an unborn baby in Alaska still could be aborted up to the moment of birth. But in Tennessee, the life of an unborn child would be protected from the moment of conception in almost all circumstances.
How could two states in the U.S. treat their unborn children so differently? The moral or philosophical answer is challenging; however, the legal answer is simple: federalism.
Over 230 years ago, the Framers of the Constitution established in the 10th Amendment that “powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” .....

How the Democrats Defraud Black America
Almost everything in this world can be divided into two spheres: the image the public sees, and the underlying reality. Sometimes they’re the same. Mother Teresa was a great humanitarian, a Godly woman free of any scandal.
Sometimes they’re not the same at all.
Bernie Madoff, contrary to his early reputation which he shamelessly exploited, was not an honorable, highly successful investment manager worthy of respect. In actual fact, he was a fraudster and a scoundrel who was sentenced to ten years in prison for embezzlement.
When the Democratic Party is examined from this perspective, especially in relation to the Black community, it comes out much closer to the inky slime of Bernie Madoff than it does the sanctity of Mother Teresa. .... .

Food, Fuel, & Inflation Crises All Stem From Globalist Policies
The global elites left Davos last week after grappling with solutions to the profound crises facing the world. They left as they arrived, unaware that the crises are entirely of their own making.
Take energy, where shortages have led to the highest gasoline prices in the U.S. and UK history and to fuel poverty affecting millions of people. If not for the specter of climate change—for decades one of the globalists’ central preoccupations—the world’s energy situation would be radically different.
Canada’s tar sands wouldn’t have been demonized and the country would have built the Keystone XL Pipeline and other pipelines to transport ever greater quantities of energy across the continent and beyond.

Globalists move into the KILL PHASE of human extermination
(Natural News) Globalists are now shifting into their “kill phase” of human extermination, abandoning all their previous strategies of trying to hide their true intentions. Now they openly talk of cutting off energy to humanity, starving people to death with food supply disruptions, resetting the global currencies to plunge humanity into poverty and achieving depopulation through the use of vaccines and deadly medications.
The kill phase has been activated. (It actually started in earnest with covid-19.) Every decision by national leaders — especially among those beholden to the WEF such as Trudeau, Biden and European leaders — is designed to generate the maximum number of human casualties between now and the end of 2025. ....

Government Report Admits Dominion Voting Machines are Vulnerable in 16 States
According to ABC News, the report by the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) admitted that the machines, provided by Dominion Voting Systems, are susceptible to hacking if the current vulnerabilities are not addressed. The report details at least nine specific weaknesses and suggests several measures to prevent further exploitation of these flaws.
Brandon Wales, Executive Director of CISA, said in a statement that “states’ standard election security procedures would detect exploitation of these vulnerabilities and in many cases would prevent attempts entirely.” But nevertheless, he cautioned that states should implement further “defensive measures to reduce the risk of exploitation of these vulnerabilities.”.....

Taxpayers Fund Satanist Gay Incest Porn Drag Queen
Government exists to secure our rights. Instead, it attacks our rights, confiscates our money, and spends it poisoning our culture with a social engineering agenda best described as satanic:
Taxpayer dollars have been allocated to help fund an event that will be hosted by a satanist drag queen who stars in gay incest pornography.
The event is called “East Central Minnesota Pride” and has been hailed by mainstream media outlets like PBS as an important fixture of Minnesota’s rural LGBTQ community. It has been held for 17 years and boasts sponsors like the state-supported East Central Regional Arts Council and the government-run Legacy Amendment. ....

Politics as the Leisure of the Theory Class
Politics has increasingly become, for many Americans, the leisure of the theory class. That's a phrase from the early 20th century sociologist Thorstein Veblen, which I turned on its head in a recent column. He was condemning the showy consumerism of the contemporary rich for having no economically practical purpose. I, on the other hand, was describing the political preoccupations of contemporary people, mainly high-education liberals but also low-education populists, as having no practically achievable goals.
One prime example is the abortion question, which was brought into the political foreground by the leaking of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito's draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade. Within 30 days, we'll see whether this view prevails.
But for most voters, abortion is, increasingly, an abstract concern. Statistics compiled by the pro-abortion rights Guttmacher Institute, and largely relied upon by those with other views, too, show that the abortion rate, or the number of abortions per woman ages 15 to 44, peaked in 1980, just seven years after Roe was handed down. That's 41 years go.
The absolute number of annual abortions in the United States peaked in 1990, 31 years ago, even though the national population has since increased from 250 million to 330 million.

Exposing the Counterfeit Theology of Progressive Christianity
Franklin Graham, President and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and of Samaritan’s Purse, took on the deceptive progressive theology posing as Christianity in an article published on Wednesday at Decision magazine. He called it “the Eternal Peril,” accurately portraying it as Satan’s lie dating from the serpent’s confrontation with Eve in the Garden of Eden.
The lie, he wrote, “has cropped up in the halls of seminaries, infiltrated the pulpits of thousands of churches, and been propagated by a godless liberal media. It is bent on casting doubt and undermining the foundational principles of God’s Word.”
The counterfeit theology attacks the basic foundational structure of Biblical Christianity at every point, seeking to destroy it and then replace it with a man-centered worldview. On gender identity, Graham writes:.....

Raising Red Flags on Federal Red Flag Gun Laws
Tragedies like those recently suffered in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, cause many Americans to voice an understandable—if misguided—urge for politicians to “just do something.”
Many of the laws for which they reflexively call—such as universal background checks and bans on so-called “assault weapons”—suffer from a host of constitutional and practical defects.
They wouldn’t have the impact on gun violence that advocates claim and aren’t likely to have stopped or hindered a single mass public shooting in the past two decades.
One policy that has increasingly found its way into the national conversation is that of so-called red flag laws, also known as extreme-risk protection orders.
While, theoretically, such laws could.....

Fathers: The Family Component Missing From Mass Shooters’ Lives
Senate Democrats considered gun control legislation last week in response to the mass school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, but Republicans questioned whether such a response would actually address the real problem.
“Why is our culture suddenly producing so many young men who want to murder innocent people?” asked Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah. “Could things like fatherlessness, the breakdown of families, isolation from civil society, or the glorification of violence be contributing factors?”
They absolutely are contributing factors, said Lynne Marie Kohm, professor of family law at Regent University School of Law, on “Washington Watch.” “The state of the family makes a huge difference.” After extensive research on juvenile violence, Kohm has compiled a list of five “common denominators for all of these boys” who turn violent:

Help! The (Pretend) President's Fallen and Can't Get Up!
In as sure a sign of a disloyal White House staff as any, reports have leaked that Joe Biden is "rattled" by cratering public approval polls and is desperately "pressing aides for a more compelling message." (Remember, folks: only the fairytale "narrative" matters, not Biden's real-world dumpster fire of a presidency.) High-level staff have been leaving the White House in droves. Biden's chief of staff, Ron Klain, is reportedly planning to skedaddle soon after the midterms. A massive exodus of black staffers is undermining morale. Old Joe is so "frustrated" with his advisers' regular "clean-up campaign" of his public comments that he has begun reprimanding them that it is he who is president. Meanwhile, his handlers' never-ending efforts to save their boss from his impaired brain and loose lips have given the White House's propaganda machine the appearance of a veritable "clown show." .....

Economics as an Antidote to Envy
rF. Robert Sirico’s new book, The Economics of the Parables, opens by reflecting on why Jesus chose economic imagery so often for his parables. In the Gospels, we hear stories of investing, trading, planting, and managing estates (the book covers a baker’s dozen of these parables), though not once of composing music, studying for a test, or playing sports. Fr. Sirico’s answer is that economics is a universal human experience—each person faces limited time and resources—thus economic imagery is fitting for parables intended to last throughout history. This is a point familiar to economists; indeed, my favorite introductory textbook (fittingly entitled Universal Economics) begins with the story of Adam and Eve:
Since the discouraging fiasco in the Garden of Eden, all the world has been a place conspicuous in its scarcity of resources, contributing heavily to an abundance of various sorrows and sins. People have had to adjust and adapt to limitations of what is available to satisfy.....

The Inherent Strength of a Democracy
In the movie Juarez, a 1939 film that dramatized the life of Benito Juarez, Mexico's "George Washington," a screen writer drafted words for the freedom fighter that send a message to every democracy today, "If a Monarch misrules; the people change... If a Presidente misrules; the people change the Presidente..." The film debuted on the eve of World War II when 20th Century "monarchy," -- fascism -- had installed itself as one of the most destructive and murderous forces the world had ever endured.
In our current era, when a president's ad-lib remarks have the means to alter world events, when inflation is forcing Americans to choose between paying the rent and putting food on the table, when our allies wonder whether this administration has the courage and stamina to confront an ever more powerful China, one could easily question the future of our nation.
But as the script from Juarez reminds us, the inherent strength of a democracy over a monarchy is that its citizens have the means to peacefully change their leaders if they suffer through failed leadership. One suspects our enemies abroad may be hoping that we will not exercise that right -- from the belief that we are distracted by the continuing aftershocks of COVID or seeking to cope with slashed earning power at the gas pump and the supermarket.

The Value of High Costs
Among the great pleasures of mastering the economic way of thinking is the access one gains to a stream of intriguing surprises. Without doubt, the most famous and important of these surprises is the understanding that productive economic order can arise without anyone planning such an order. In a reasonably well-functioning system of private property rights, each person’s pursuit of his or her own individually chosen goals contributes to a pattern of resource use that better enables the satisfaction of the individually chosen goals of countless strangers.
But sound economic reasoning reveals many other, if much less momentous, surprising truths.
Here’s one: High costs are good. This claim sounds nutty. After all, don’t we all prefer low costs to high costs? Yet the truth of the claim that high costs are good becomes clear when the nature of cost is correctly understood...

Marine Corps ‘Pride Month’? Cut the Crap!
This week, on the Marine Corps’ official global-facing USMC social media platform, there appeared a “tribute” to the small number of gender dysphoric people in military ranks — many of whom would, themselves, likely object to this post. The post declared: “Throughout June, the USMC takes #Pride in recognizing and honoring the contributions of our LGBTQ service members. We remain committed to fostering an environment free from discrimination, and defend the values of treating all equally, with dignity and respect.”
I support treating people with dignity and respect, but this post is not actually about that. It’s about infusing the ranks with a leftist political agenda.
I most assuredly do not support using the official USMC platform to promote the Left’s gender confusion agenda, let alone doing so with an image of a Marine helmet and rainbow-colored rounds.....

In Brief: Economic Misery Isn’t an Accident, It’s the Plan
Joe Biden may have a “plan” to combat inflation that consists primarily of blaming everyone else, but journalist Daniel Greenfield argues that economic malaise is the Left’s plan.
Americans can’t afford to buy a used car or even gas because the Left doesn’t want them to drive. They can’t buy homes because the Left wants to destroy the suburbs and force everyone to live in megacities. They have trouble buying meat because the Left wants them to eat soy.
The same is true for the whole exercise in planned economic misery that we’re experiencing.
Take Hoover’s “A chicken in every pot and a car in every garage” and reverse it. That’s the goal. What we’re living through is not an unintentional accident: it’s the American Holodomor.
Greenfield thinks that it’s naive to say Biden isn’t.....

The Moral Idiocy of Gun Control
Big city progressives find guns indefinably ‘icky’. It’s not only foreigners who marvel at a country where guns, even ‘big scary black ones’, are available everywhere. The propaganda of Michael Moore’s “Bowling in Columbine” and countless network news shows is that people who live surrounded by guns have created the conditions for mass shootings. And they have it coming.
But New Yorkers, like most big city dwellers, live surrounded by guns. These aren’t the guns that ride on trucks or sit in sporting goods store displays. They’re the guns flashed by a mugger under his heavy down winter coat, or shot by rival gang members exchanging fire in the 73rd precinct in Brooklyn which accounted for around 100 shootings in just one year alone..

Retire These Gun Myths
The aftermath of a horrific mass shooting is not the time one would usually turn to a humor site, and yet, The Onion had an insightful take on Uvalde. The headline: "'No Way to Prevent This,' Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens." And here's the kicker: The Onion has run pieces with that same headline for years.
Our mass shooting problem — there have been an average of two per month for the past eight years — arises from a familiar stew of history, culture, law and commerce. And certain facts loom large. Yes, mass shootings represent a small fraction of gun deaths in America. And yes, the Second Amendment makes limiting guns more difficult here than in Canada, Australia or other places. Those are big, hulking obstacles to solving our problem. But there are other assumptions that are trotted out regularly in our hoary gun discussions that are less daunting than they appear. ....

Lunatic Fringe Thinks Pride Parades Are Good for Kids
The extremist fringe really isn’t extreme on the left anymore. They want children to be thoroughly exposed to a segment of the population that is, in reality, a statistical outlier and still truly on the fringes of society according to most Americans. As part of the process, some think kids should experience annual semi-pornographic Bacchanalias known as pride parades.
The groomers are everywhere these days, but nowhere are they more visible than at LGBTQ “Pride” parades, where every kind of debauchery imaginable is on full display in neighborhoods and on city streets around the world. A website called Fatherly warns in its Parenting section that pride parades are “filled with sights that may be new to kids, like public nudity and kink. Not to mention that Pride parades aren’t the most sober of places.”

No, The Durham Probe Didn't Fail With Sussmann's Acquittal
The mainstream media was quick to turn what they had previously called an insignificant legal proceeding into some kind of landmark proof that there was no wrongdoing in their propagation of the Russia collusion hoax. But their seizing on the verdict also sought to change the conversation and public memory of the trial to not include the substantive admissions that were made during the course of the trial. Information that means the first trial to come from John Durham's probe was not a failure or any sort of exercise in futility.
As twice-former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr — who appointed Durham as a special counsel, insulting the investigation against the Biden administration — explained this week on Fox News, there's a significant silver lining to what Democrats are heralding as a win.....

POLL: Nearly Half Of Democrats Think Disarming Teachers Makes Schools Less Safe
Nearly half of Democratic voters believed preventing properly trained teachers from carrying firearms made classrooms less dangerous, according to a May survey.
Of Democratic respondents, 48.2% believed that preventing properly trained teachers and school staff from carrying firearms made schools much more or somewhat more dangerous, a poll conducted May 25-29 by the Convention of States Action and The Trafalgar Group found. The survey sampled 1091 likely general election voters.

School Districts Have Tools They Need to Address Alleged Teacher Shortages
Special-interest groups and some members of Congress claim public schools across the country are suffering from crisis-level teacher shortages in the wake of COVID-19, and they are demanding more money from taxpayers as a solution.
The reality, however, is a much different story: Most schools have enough teachers, and money that could be used to hire additional teachers or retain existing ones has been spent growing enormous administrative staffs that have ultimately added little value to the classroom.
The political drive to increase teaching staff long preceded the pandemic. A 2016 study claimed that by 2020, 300,000 new teachers would be needed annually. ....

Queen Spends All Day Practicing Face-Rip-Lizard-Reveal In Mirror
FEARING that her life force may not sustain her mortal vessel for another solar cycle, the Queen has decided that the Platinum Jubilee celebrations are the perfect time to reveal her true form to the world, and has been practising accordingly.
“Left hand under right side of chin and peel upwards. Left hand under right side of chin and peel upwards… wait, will I be able to do this and hold my death sceptre at the same time?” wondered the British monarch, as she practiced the motion in front of a mirror in a style reminiscent of Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver.
“This is the moment where one finally reveals the secrets of the Royal bloodline, and one only gets one shot at this to get it right. Perhaps if I lose the sceptre and tear my whole head-skin off like I’m taking off a jumper? I can always just pick the sceptre up and start firing random death beams into the crowd afterward, I suppose”.
Meanwhile, palace security has been put on an all-time high following reports that a re-animated Diana Spencer may be roaming freely in London, having chosen the Platinum Jubilee as the perfect time to exact her revenge on the Queen following years of hiding in the shadows.....

Man who accidentally left 300,000 guns for Taliban gives lecture on gun control
WASHINGTON, DC—The man who accidentally left 300,000 guns for the Taliban and is sending millions of dollars in weapons to the most corrupt country in Europe has given a lecture on gun control.
In a speech on Thursday, President* Joe Biden called for the ban of assault weapons in the United States following several recent false flag mass shootings, including those in Uvalde, Texas and Buffalo, N.Y.
“Just do something. For God’s sake, do something. After Columbine, after Sandy Hook, after Charleston, after Orlando, after Las Vegas, after Parkland — nothing has been done,” Biden said. “How many kids do we have to kill in false flag attacks before you people give up your rights?“
Biden left $80 billion in weaponry to the Taliban after abruptly leaving Afghanistan in 2021. Biden also presided over sending billions of dollars in unmarked weapons to Ukraine.

School Practices Drill For When There’s Not An Active Shooter
LARGO, OH—In an effort to keep students and faculty ready should the situation ever arise, a local middle school was reportedly practicing the drill Thursday for what to do when there’s not an active shooter. “Attention teachers and students: For the next 10 minutes, we will proceed as if there is not a school shooter on the premises; all students will emerge from hiding under their desks, and all teachers will immediately stop barricading the door and begin writing lessons on the whiteboard,” Lincoln Middle School’s principal said over the intercom, interrupting the regular daily flow of a mass shooter stalking the school to initiate the drill, so the school would be prepared in the event it ever experienced a day in which that didn’t occur. “For the next five minutes, we will no longer be on lockdown, and all students will be expected to go to their lockers and chat with their friends. Teachers will turn on the lights in the classroom and begin teaching students rather than tending to any wounded children. The school security guard will initiate the sequence in which he returns to the school from where he’s been hiding in the parking lot and will practice hassling students in the hallway.” At press time,....

Texas Passes Mandatory 24-Hour Waiting Period Before Police Can Engage Active Shooters
AUSTIN, TX—In an effort to address rising gun violence in the state, Texas legislators passed a new law Friday mandating that police wait 24 hours before engaging with active shooters. “Deciding whether or not to respond to an active shooting is an extremely serious decision for any police officer to make, and we want to ensure that all Texas law enforcement officers have ample time to think it through,” said Gov. Greg Abbott, who added that the 24-hour waiting period, which would begin the moment dispatchers received their first 911 call, would help police be “100% certain” that protecting the public was prudent. “Before rushing into a school or church to stop a massacre, police will be required to wait a full 24 hours, never acting a minute sooner. They’ll also be subject to mandatory counseling with their peers in the parking lot so they can fully recognize the risks involved with attempting to save lives. We wouldn’t want them to do something in the heat of the moment that they’d regret, like taking out the shooter.” At press time, Abbott added that each additional 911 call authorities received would restart the waiting period.
