The Message this Week

Preaching Text: 1 Samuel 3:1-21

Bad news for Eli. Samuel is famously called and we sing his response in a beloved song, ‘Here I am, Lord! Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night.’ He does go on to help God anoint kings, but first he has to deliver some bad news to his mentor/caregiver, Eli. What happens when, ‘Here I am’ just leads to a hard conversation?

God, You are still speaking in the world, which means you are still speaking to us. Help us to see you in our lives in new ways this week.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WONDERING...

Real questions from real people to learn more about faith.

We passed a budget, now what?

This Sunday, October 12, is Pastor Appreciation Day! Our appreciation isn’t limited to one day—we give thanks for Pastor Trudy all year long as she guides us in living a generous life in Christ. Take a moment this Sunday to share your thanks and appreciation with Pastor Trudy!

• Incline our ears to hear what you are saying, and grant us courage to do what you ask.
• Help us to love creation as you do, and live out that love in action.
• Use us in ways which reach the far corners of the earth with the good news of redemption and eternal life in you.
• You are ever sensitive to our fears, weaknesses, and crises of health and wellness. Extend your healing hand to us all, especially Leif Abrahamson who is awaiting scan results.
• Help us to raise the youth in your community and support their growing faith that they may find the ways in which you are calling them to give their lives in service.
• Join us with all who have heard your call in every age and followed you. Make of us one family of faith, undivided by time or space.

We lift all these prayers, and those of our hearts, to your loving care, O God. Receive them and restore our hope in your promises. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
