Blessing of the Backpacks
On Sunday, August 23 we will have our traditional blessing of the backpacks. All students (and even teachers) are welcome to bring their backpacks for a blessing and a special gift as the school year starts!

Special Music on Sunday, August 30
We have a very special treat as Jeff Krick Jr. will share a few songs at the beginning of worship on Sunday, August 30. Jeff sings Elvis's music professionally and is also a person of faith who shares his songs from that perspective. Pastor Stuart saw him perform and was touched by his presentations of some great hymns of faith. Don’t worry, Jeff won’t be wearing a white jumpsuit and we think you’ll enjoy his great voice and the spirituals that Elvis was famous for singing.

Confirmation Teacher Needed
St. Paul's has an outstanding Confirmation program where students in grades six through eight have the opportunity to grow in faith while preparing for a faith commitment. After many years of faithful service, Brian Hillestad is stepping back, so another adult teacher is needed. If this interests you or you would like to learn more about our Confirmation ministry, please speak with Pastor Stuart, Joan Strawbridge, Becky Shallow, Brian Hillestad, or Melissa Pechin. Thank you!

Free Freezer Available
Social Ministry no longer needs the large freezer in the parsonage, and it is available for free to anyone who wants it. It is in working condition, and they would like to have it moved out by early August if possible. If interested, please contact Jenn Pindle-Lloyd.

Rejoicing Spirits Service
Our next Rejoicing Spirits service will be on Sunday, August 9 at 4:00 pm. This is an informal, inclusive and adapted service open to all in the community, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, regardless of faith background. The service includes joyous music, singing and brief, meaningful, pastor-led sermons.

OUR OFFICIAL FALL KICKOFF LOCK-IN will be held Saturday evening, September 19 through Sunday morning, September 20 at St. Matthew's. GOOD WORKS YOUTH WORK DAYS will start up again on Saturday, September 26 from 8:15 am to 3:45 pm. Spend a Saturday helping make repairs to homes for people in need in our area. All 7th through 12th graders are welcome to join us; if you're thinking about participating in Appalachia Service Project next summer, this is a great way to get some idea of what that ministry is all about! Sign up here by Wednesday, September 16 to participate: Sept. 26th Good Works Youth Work Day.
SUMMER 2027 YOUTH TRIP INFO SESSIONS (yes, already) - There are TWO big trips in the works for our youth next summer: The triennial (every-three-year) ELCA Youth Gathering June 28 to July 2 in Minneapolis, MN; and our annual Appalachia Service Project Work Week July 16-23. All 7th through 12th graders, and their parents, are encouraged to attend one of two information sessions to learn more about these opportunities:
-
St. Paul's Fellowship Hall on Sunday, September 13 from noon to 1:00 pm; or
-
St. Matthew's CLC on Sunday, September 13 from 4:00 to 5:00pm.
Registration for both of these trips open in October, so we will need to get our groups assembled soon!
HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH PEER MINISTRY RETREAT - If you are in 9th through 12th grade and interested in being trained as a Peer Ministry Leader, reserve the weekend of November 13-15 on your calendar to attend a special retreat in Bethany Beach, DE. More information coming in early September!

Musical Notes from Lindsay
Sunday, August 2
Our selections today support this memorable Exodus reading: Exodus 14:19-31
Of all the scriptural references that pop culture and society has adopted across all fronts, this is close to the top of the list. "Parting the sea" evokes an instantaneous image in even the non-Judeo-Christian's mind, and it is synonymous with effecting great and sudden change within something as insurmountable as the raging sea.
Gathering Hymn: Crashing Waters at Creation
Verse 2 is a direct homage to the enslaved Israelites, and the accompanying verses help to underline the power of water as a vessel to cleanse, reveal and create.
Hymn of the Day: Blessed Be Your Name
Commemorating the parting of the sea from today's reading warrants recognizing the many blessings God bestows on us daily. Even when times are challenging and the outcome is unclear, it is safe and certain to fall into the promise of His unending love for us.
Sending Song: Let It Be Said of Us
There's something militaristic about this selection, and this recording by the Maranatha Singers features a snare drum that even further depicts the message of the commission we have as Christians to carry the love of Christ beyond the doors of the sanctuary.

Experience with Google Voice
If anyone has had experience with using Google Voice in their business or organization, would you please contact Cari in the church office? In our quest to always steward funds carefully, we are looking at this as an option for our phone system. Thanks!
