Beginning January 1, 2026, Peel Region will no longer manage residential recycling. An organization called Circular Materials will manage recycling instead as part of a province-wide mandate that shifts the responsibility of recycling operations and costs to producers - the companies that create packaging and paper.
What does this mean for Mississauga residents?
Starting January 1, 2026:
  • Residents' recycling schedule and bin stay the same.
  • Peel Region will still collect garbage, organics, and yard waste.
For recycling bin and collection issues, residents should contact GFL – Green For Life Environmental Inc. (the contractor hired to provide collection services) at:
For other recycling program questions, residents can contact Circular Materials at: customerservice@circularmaterials.ca or call 1-877-667-2626.
For additional information, visit: circularmaterials.ca/peelregion.

With the record snow fall we have received we want to remind everyone to keep snow and ice from building up on gas meters and external exhaust outlets for furnaces, fireplaces, water heaters and dryers.

Fire hydrants also are required to be cleared - help them to help us.

The City of Mississauga’s 2026 Budget has been adopted. This budget addresses community priorities to keep property taxes affordable while continuing to deliver more than 200 City programs and services, maintaining and building important infrastructure. The 2026 Budget was a collaborative process, including recommendations from City staff and leadership to align with taxpayer priorities. Members of the public provided feedback at more than a dozen ward townhalls, Budget Committee meetings and through other City channels.

Sidewalk clearing on secondary routes is a new service provided by the City this year. A sidewalk plow will salt (and plow, depending on accumulation) the snow on all city sidewalks, providing for better and safer access for pedestrians.

As you can imagine, sidewalk plow operators work in challenging circumstances - usually at night during inclement weather. They often deal with snow covered obstacles like concrete landscaping, bricks or stones, parked vehicles, waste containers and even sports equipment adjacent to sidewalks and encroaching on city property.

The width of the plow is about the same as the width of the sidewalk so even the slightest veering off path can rip up sod or damage landscaping features.

Property owners are asked to ensure there is sufficient space for successful plowing operations. Do not place vehicles, bins or equipment next to or overhanging the sidewalk. If you have removable landscape features butting up against the sidewalk, please move them further away during winter.

Sod damage is repaired in the spring and fall months and the cost is fully covered by the snow clearing contractor. Residents can report damage to their sod due to snow clearing operations by using the link below. These properties are added to the list for repair after the winter season.
