Advice for photographing the April 8 solar eclipse

“There are plenty of great photos to be made of solar eclipses no matter what photo equipment you use. You can make beautiful images with long lenses, short lenses and in-between lenses, but you’ll need a few essentials: safe viewing filters, a tripod and a plan you can follow. Planning is crucial. You’ll want to know well in advance where you will view the event. Arrive early with plenty of time to set up, and be ready to adapt to those inevitable unexpected hiccups. … And most importantly, include some time in your routine to empty your hands, get your head out of your viewfinder and look with your own eyes.”

Job interview tip: How to frame your questions

“How you phrase your questions is important. Rather than using generic language, you want to ask the questions as if they pertain specifically to you. For example, instead of ‘What does a typical day look like?’ you want to ask ‘What would a typical day for me in this role look like?’ That will allow the hiring manager to begin seeing you in the role. According to [career strategist John] Lees, this is a ‘great psychological trick’ because as soon as they visualize you doing the job, it’s hard to let go of that image.”
