Autumn in the Garden

Join us for our Autumn in the Garden event on the Cozad-Bates lawn on October 8 from 5–8 PM!

We’re excited to welcome back TV personality Jan Jones for a special guest interview. Guests will also enjoy catering by Sophie Events, live music from Blue Lunch, the opportunity to create and take home your own bouquet of flowers courtesy of Blossom Flower Bar, and a selection of wine, beer, and specialty spirit-free beverages.

Tickets are available! If you're looking to make an even greater impact, consider becoming an event sponsor. Sponsorship opportunities, some exclusive, offer meaningful recognition and help underwrite various aspects of the event while supporting Transplant House's mission.

If you are unable to attend but would still like to donate, please visit this link. Donations directly fund community programming, amenities, and other essential resources for our guests.

We hope to see you there!

Handy Volunteers Needed!

Our charming old buildings with 25 apartments can always use the skills of someone handy!

Minor household plumbing, electrical, or carpentry skills are always needed. Regular availability would be ideal but not required. The schedule for these volunteers can be flexible.

Here are the core maintenance services needed:

Apartment Turnovers: Quick repairs, painting, and touch-ups between guest stays

General Handyman Tasks: Fixing stubborn doors, leaky faucets, and light fixtures

Grounds & Facility Care: Keeping walkways safe, clean, and accessible.

Preventative Checks: Routine inspections to stop property issues before they start.

If interested, please contact us at volunteer@transplanthouseofcleveland.org or give us a call at (216) 938-9553.

Transplant House featured in Cleveland Magazine!

We’re honored to be featured in this month’s Cleveland Magazine Best Doctors issue!

The article explores how Northeast Ohio has become a top destination for heart and lung transplant care, bringing patients and caregivers from across the country–and around the world–to Cleveland. For many families, that journey means navigating an unfamiliar city while facing the challenges of transplant.

At Transplant House, we see every day how a supportive community can make all the difference. As our Director of Development, Aaron Babcock, shared in the article, “We see guests lift one another up during difficult times and celebrate together when a transplant finally happens after a long wait, or a patient leaves the ICU.”

These shared experiences grow into friendships that last far beyond their time at the House.

Thank you to Cleveland Magazine for helping shine a light on the critical importance of community and affordable lodging during the transplant journey.

Happenings Around the House

Become a meal volunteer – slots for 2027 are now open!

Without the time and effort of our volunteers, our weekly meals would not be possible. They graciously prepare home-cooked meals for around 30 transplant patients and caregivers every Wednesday.

These meals are a crucial function of life here at Transplant House. For our guests, who come from at least an hour away, gathering with others who understand the highs and lows of the transplant journey creates camaraderie and solidifies bonds that last well beyond their time here.

Thank you for helping us continue this meaningful tradition! We have updated our sign-up calendar: check it out!

We have a new shed!

Thanks to Joanie and Marc, long-time volunteers and friends, their son-in-law, Jeff, and their whole crew, we now have a brand-new shed!

Of course, Benson was on-site to monitor the project, offering plenty of support, encouragement, and free hugs.

Thanks to Jeff’s expertise and direction as the lead carpenter and construction manager, the entire project took just four and a half hours to complete! We’re so grateful for the time and teamwork that went into creating a much-needed storage space for our outdoor tools.

Thank you, Joanie, Marc, Jeff, and everyone who made this project happen. We couldn’t have done it without our incredible community!

Thank you, Joel and Rochelle!

Every year, local kidney recipient Joel and his wife Rochelle, who are also longtime volunteers, host an annual get-together with family and friends. Instead of gifts, they ask their guests to bring items from the Transplant House wish list.

And they delivered! We are beyond grateful for these essential items that will help us restock our apartments for the families we serve.

When transplant patients and their families come to Transplant House from out of town, even the smallest comforts can make an unfamiliar place feel like home. Knowing that someone took the time to think about their needs reminds them that they are supported every step of the way.

Thank you, Joel, Rochelle, and everyone who continues to help us create a welcoming home away from home for transplant families.

Celebrating Benson for National Dog Day!

National Dog Day took place on August 26, and we celebrate Benson, our resident golden retriever and an integral part of life at Transplant House! 🐾

Benson’s favorite pastime is spreading joy to both transplant patients and caregivers, greeting everyone with a tail wag and boundless affection. His easygoing and caring nature bring comfort to our guests and help make Transplant House feel even more like home.

When he’s not busy brightening someone’s day, you might find Benson helping with landscaping (searching for food in the leaves), supervising the grill, or lending a paw with projects around the House–including helping set up our new shed!

If you see Benson around, be sure to say hello. He’ll be more than happy to greet you! 🧡
