Grant Road Widening Project
VOTE on Noise Walls by Friday, August 21st
| | |
As part of Grant Road Widening project, the city performed noise studies resulting in potential Noise Walls in front of certain Jefferson Park homes on Grant Road between Highland and Campbell. If approved (by your vote), some of these walls will be placed on the far side of an access road in front of your home, and some will be placed about a couple feet from your front property line.
Property Owners Take Action Now:
If you own a blue shaded property, your vote COUNTS! You must vote by Friday, August 21st. For the wall to be approved (and built), 50% + 1 of the property owners in the blue shaded area for your wall must vote Yes.
Vote Now: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3T8363G
Neighbors Take Action Now:
If you rent a blue shaded property, live next to one, live behind one, or know the owner, reach out to the blue shaded property owners now to educate them on reducing noise by approving the noise walls.
If you have questions about voting, location or style of Noise Walls, please contact Lindsey at Lindsey.Salcido@tucsonaz.gov or 520-627-1611.
Below is the map showing the blue shaded properties; the owners of these properties are the only ones who can vote. The purple lines show where the Noise Walls would be built.
| |
This photo was excerpted from the larger map. The yellow lines are the 5ft to 8ft sidewalks bordering the proposed widened six-lane Grant Road. The purple are the proposed walls.

UPDATE - International School
Construction and Future of the Playground as a City Park
| | |
From the Site Plan above, you can see exactly where the new modules are placed. Please note that the two large, beautiful trees on the southwest corner of campus were not touched.
| | |
City of Tucson - Public Park reopening
Greg Jackson, Deputy Director, City of Tucson Parks & Rec., met with IST on 7/16, and walked the property. IST and Greg discussed how vital the park is to the neighborhood and how good the neighborhood has been to the school and why we wanted to create a new Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA). Greg had already spoken with Bryant Nodine (TUSD).
It seems very promising that this will be able to happen; he just needs to get the approvals officially done. He seemed confident it would happen in September.

Mountain Ave Improvements
Speedway to Ft. Lowell
| | |
Update from Transportation and Mobility:
Funding has been secured so that the entire corridor (on Mountain Ave. from Speedway to Fort Lowell) can be re-paved. This does delay the protected bike lane project, but it provides the opportunity to install a protected bike lane, repave, and improve curb ramps that are currently not up to ADA standards.
Once there are more details regarding the timeline, we'll let you know.
If you would like to see something similar, on Prince Rd, just west of Country Club, there was a recent touch-up to the bike lane. A bike lane buffer with a simple re-stripe and some bollards were installed to separate the bike lane with the travel lane. This is similar to what was designed for Mountain, but they would also be alternating the bike lane protection with those bollards and precast concrete curb for something a little extra. Since the installation, slower speeds more cautious driving have been observed. We can expect to see some similar behavior once our project on Mountain is installed.

| | Banner Acquisitions - New Parking Garage | |
Banner shares some news about the parking garage expansion at Banner University Medical Center. Plans include:
- Demo the two houses at 1602 and 1648 E. Lester Street. Their architect is working in the historical context report as part of the demo. This work is scheduled to begin in September.
- The two plots of land will be used to create temporary Valet Parking for the Banner campus, while they are expanding the parking garage.
- Once the expanded parking garage is completed, the two plots of land will be turned into green landscape areas and a retention basin.
- The construction of the expansion of parking garage C will start end of November, early December.
On September 23, at 5:15PM, just prior to the regular JPNA meeting, Banner will review the demolition plan, temporary parking plans, and answer questions.

100 ft. Poles in Jefferson Park
City Council sides with TEP
| | |
In spite of hundreds of e-mails, letters, and compelling testimony from Tucson residents, the City Council supported 100 ft poles in midtown.
The City Council voted 4 to 3 to allow the 100 ft poles, ignoring the University Plan and UDC. Thank you to Kevin Dahl, Miranda Schubert, and Paul Cunningham, who voted to support undergrounding. This decision sets the precedent that will allow TEP to erect 100 ft poles in any neighborhood.
It is clearly a dangerous decision and the Undergrounding Coalition and Underground Arizona will now move to the next step. Stay tuned!
| | Upgrade to Monument Sign at Grant/First | | | | |
The monument sign at Grant
and First will get an upgrade in the fall. Aluminum reflective material will be installed behind the letters so they my be better seen. The sign was made possible from a donation by Michael Crawford, Prime Leaf, and he will now fund the upgrade.
| | Jefferson Park Linear Trail - A nice morning walk | | |
CHECK IT OUT! The tumble weeds are gone, thanks to our friends at Parks and Recreation. We continue to work with them on keeping up with the landscaping and trimming, and the longer term project, the installation of additional lighting in the park.
RIPRAP to be installed to prevent overnight camping near residential walls. According to Adrian Jaramillo, Parks and Rec, the riprap will be installed shortly. Many thanks to him and his crew on behalf of the neighbors.

If you live in Jefferson Park, there should be no helicopters bound for Banner Hospital over your house. Jefferson Park has an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) that all helicopters must enter and leave south of the hospital, unless there's a special emergency or weather factors dictate a change in the flight path.
Place this number in your phone and just call that number-it is quick and easy and helps inform Banner.
Call BUMC Security: 520-694-6533, just give location of helicopter-no need to give your name
