Lori's Update:
I've been working on something new and love to be writing this month again about Public Safety. Specifically our Cherokee County E 9-1-1 Center.
I am super excited and honored to have been asked to build and run the Cherokee County 911 Foundation. We have an amazing board with a mission to support, advocate, and advance Cherokee County E 9-1-1.
I was recently talking to my mother on one of our lunch outings about this new adventure. I learned my own mother doesn't know some pretty basic information about E 9-1-1 even after calling multiple times. There is so much I want you to learn. So jump on, here we go!!
Your 9-1-1 dispatchers are your FIRST first responder on EVERY emergency in Cherokee County. When you call 9-1-1, you are not calling the police department or fire department - you are calling your #1 in the State 9-1-1 Center. Who does 9-1-1 take calls for and dispatch for? The answer is CSO, CCF&EMS, Canton, Ball Ground, Holly Springs, The Marshal's Office, Reinhardt University Public Safety, and Woodstock Fire/Police, and MORE. 95% of all calls are answered in 10 seconds or less. Dispatchers work 12 hours shifts and get (4) 15 minute breaks. This means they cannot leave the center for breakfast, lunch or dinner. 911 is also fully funded by the $1.50 on your cell or phone bill. Interesting huh?? Did you know any of that? In the time I have spent asking and educating people - they did not know, so you are not alone.
Here's how you can help! It's simple, to make a donation or if you would like to learn about becoming a partner, just click here. Don't hesitate to reach out to me if you would like to learn more!!! If you have a E 9-1-1 story, I want to know it. You'll find this issue heavy community.
Next month get ready for some major marketing, and updates we have been working on to make you look awesome.
