Innovative new pothole solution rolls out in Kansas City

The Pothole Patcher is safer and faster than the manual method

MoDOT’s Kansas City District recently rolled out an innovative way to safely fill potholes in the area.

The Pothole Patcher is a truck with a driver-controlled arm attached that cleans out debris from the pothole and then fills it with hot oil and rock before sealing off the top with excess material. Then the truck drives over the patch to pack it down and level it off.

This innovative pothole solution has already repaired thousands of potholes in the Kansas City area and takes less time than a ground crew. It also keeps MoDOT workers safe inside the vehicle, leading to less risk to workers on Missouri roadways.

If you see the pothole patcher out on the road, please give it room to work and always slow down for MoDOT crews.

There is a "Report a Road Concern" page on MoDOT's website where customers can report potholes in their areas, or they can call the toll-free customer service line at 1-888-ASK-MODOT.

Innovative design strategy creates traffic solution

The new interchange at Route 141 and Route 364 in St. Louis utilizes a new kind of traffic-diverting overpass they’re calling a displaced left. It involves an unconventional left turn under the old bridge but has improved traffic flow at an exit ramp that would routinely back up traffic onto the highway. The full video describing this innovation is on MoDOT's YouTube page.

U.S. Route 63 closure in Rolla beginning March 24

U.S. Route 63 in Rolla will close near Tim Bradley Way beginning at 7 p.m. on March 24. There will be a signed detour over I-44 and Missouri Route 72. The work is expected to take 2-3 weeks. Drivers traveling the route should be aware of increased traffic in the area leading up to the total solar eclipse on April 8. Plan your trip with the Traveler Information Map.

Transportation History - Women's History Month

In 1909, Alice Ramsey and her passengers became the first women to complete a coast-to-coast automobile trip, driving 3,800 miles in 59 days. Despite being a publicity stunt for an automaker, Ramsey received recognition as "Woman Motorist of the Century" in 1960 and was the first woman inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2000.
