A Year of Progress

October 2026

Dear Alumni & Friends,

It is hard for me to believe that it is already October. Our campus is bustling with activity on a daily basis. I love walking the halls in between classes and greeting our students. It warms my heart when I hear one of them call out, "Hi Ron!". This is the campus culture that you remember and we continue to cultivate. We may have doubled our headcount over the past five years, but we are still a small, close-knit community. This is what makes Miles Community College a very special place.

This month's newsletter is extra special to me. It is our twelfth edition which marks one full year of publication. I am very proud of this and look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come. After all, "Community" is our middle name and we need to honor that. I believe one of the best ways to do this is engage our alumni and friends and keep you informed about what is happening at the college. Miles Community College belongs to the people who make up the great State of Montana. It is truly an honor to serve our students and each of you. We are so very grateful for your continued support! Thank you so very much!

As always, I love hearing from you. Please reach out and update me on what is happening in your life. You are all part of our MCC Family so please stay in touch. You can reach me at SlingerR@milescc.edu.

Grateful for Our Donors

The semester began with plenty to celebrate as the MCC Foundation hosted its annual Nursing Scholarship Presentation during Nursing Orientation. The event recognized this year’s scholarship recipients and gave students the opportunity to celebrate alongside faculty, staff, Foundation Board members, members of the MCC executive team, and several of the generous donors who make these scholarships possible.

Scholarship support plays an important role in helping our nursing students continue their education and prepare for careers caring for others. We are incredibly grateful to the donors who continue to invest in our students, our Nursing Program, and the future of healthcare in our communities.

Congratulations to all of this year’s nursing scholarship recipients!

Cultivating Careers Expo

Miles Community College was proud to partner and host the Cultivating Careers Expo in conjunction with the Montana Chamber of Commerce Foundation and several other local organizations.

This event provides eastern Montana high school students with the opportunity to learn about various career technical jobs that are available to them.

They participate in hands-on experiences as they rotate through several different stations around campus.

We welcomed over three hundred high school students from Miles City, Ekalaka, Hysham, Wibaux, Lame Deer, Broadus, Rosebud, Forsyth, Colstrip, as well as many area homeschoolers.

I want to especially thank our CDL Program, Nursing Program, and Learning Center for their participation. It was really rewarding to hear the excitement of the students whether they were in our nursing classrooms, simulation labs, or climbing into our MCC-branded semi. The survey results were all very positive and we are already looking forward to hosting this great event again next year.

9/11 Day of Remembrance

In remembrance of the 25th Anniversary of the horrific attacks on 9/11, MCC hosted the 9/11 Day of Remembrance in a partnership with Special Olympics. The program was funded through a grant from the Alliance for Campus Community Engagement and the Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement.

We had 49 participants who learned about the significance that the events on 9/11 had on our nation. There was a presentation and discussion.

The participants then helped to make 100 gift bags for our local first responders. These were then delivered on 9/11. I am so very proud of our students giving back to our community in this way.

Pioneer Palooza Fundraiser

Pioneer Palooza is back! Join fellow alumni, friends, and Pioneer supporters for one of our favorite nights of the year! Pioneer Palooza brings the community together for an evening of dinner, live and silent auctions, games, raffles, and plenty of Pioneer spirit.

Your participation in Pioneer Palooza helps support scholarships and team expenses for our NJCAA Pioneer athletic teams throughout the year. Gather your friends, enjoy a fun evening at the MCC Centra, and show your support for our student-athletes.

Tickets are available now. Reserve yours today!

OPPORTUNITY STARTS HERE.

Your support through the MCC Foundation helps give students the resources, experiences, and opportunities they need to succeed, both at MCC and beyond.
