Welcome, Saxon families! I hope everyone is having an enjoyable first week of school. What have been the highlights? Seeing familiar faces (if partially hidden by face masks)? Meeting new classmates and making new friends? Interacting with teachers in person? Eating lunch in the Langley Courtyard under the green umbrellas? Attending after-school practices and activities? Getting caught in Georgetown Pike traffic? I am pretty sure that last one didn’t make the list! No matter what aspect of returning to school your teen enjoyed most, it can’t be denied that there is a certain excitement in the air as the building is once again filled with students.

On the first day of school, students enjoyed eating and socializing under large green umbrellas in Langley's main courtyard, which provided welcome shade on the hot and sunny August day. The PTSA recently purchased the umbrellas, made possible by generous donations from parents and community members.

Thank you to the PTSA Family Network Committee, along with Langley administrators and class parents, who welcomed freshman and transfer families with an orientation designed to ease their transition into LHS. One of their resources was the Class of 2025 Parent Start-Up Guide, also posted on the Class of 2025 webpage. While some information is specific to freshmen, this list of important dates, contact information, website links and “must do’s” is useful for all Langley parents. I encourage you to check it out, even if you're not new to LHS.
Although it's still August, fall sports are in full swing! Fill the stands at Langley on Friday night to cheer on our JV and varsity field hockey teams or drive over to Yorktown HS to support our varsity football team in their first away game of the season. Looking for more details about these games or other LHS sports teams and events? Visit the Langley Athletics website. Go Saxons!

Langley’s Marching Saxons spent the first weeks in August in marching band camp learning their new show, Looking Back, Moving Forward. Last Friday, they previewed the entire show for family members. Come catch a performance at one of our Langley home football games! The Marching Saxons perform during halftimes, and the pep band always amps up the atmosphere throughout the games. Home games this year are on Sept 17, Sept 24, Oct 15, Oct 29 and Nov 5.

Your membership and donation dollars provide many items that the FCPS budget cannot furnish, including substance abuse prevention programs, continuing education programs for teachers, staff appreciation events, supplemental materials, and cutting-edge equipment and technology that wouldn’t otherwise be possible, and much more.
Click here to donate and/or become a member of the PTSA. Membership needs to be renewed annually, and PTSA dues are separate from class dues. Thanks for your support!

Dinner will be held outdoors rain or shine at 5-5:45 pm at the Outdoor Amphitheater in front of the school (by the library), with food provided by Café Rio. Dinner is $20 and payments are through MySchoolBucks. Family members are invited to attend! To guarantee a meal for your student and any additional family members, pay by Sun, Aug 29. Only a small number of walk-ins can be accommodated at the door. As this is a class fundraiser, no refunds will be given.

The parent presentation will be recorded and released the following day via Schoology.

photos, photos, photos: The senior slideshow is traditionally played at the Senior Breakfast/Awards Ceremony. Due to the pandemic, we are seriously behind in collecting photos – so please submit all photos that you have now or take over this year – “First Day of Senior Year,” distance learning/mask photos from last year, and freshman/sophomore pics, too! Please submit your photos directly here or send to langley2022.photos@gmail.com. Try to submit group photos including only students from Langley’s Class of 2022 (but we are going to be flexible this year, so don’t stress about this). Questions?
