Demonstrations of INCLUSION
Each week we focus on one of our seven community values, and those of us that choose to share how the community value is showing up in their lives. This week our community value is INCLUSION. Here's how INCLUSION is showing in the lives of some of our community members.
Rev. Rafe: Okay, we had a lot of inclusion going on in the world yesterday, or was it? I don’t know. Perhaps it depends on which camp you’re in and maybe that there are camps speaks to the opportunity for greater inclusion.
MaryAnne: I participated in a protest yesterday and felt really included in a group of peaceful protesters. It really doesn’t matter which camp we’re in or how we feel, we exercised our right to protest for what we believe, and I felt very patriotic and very included in the process.
Rev. Frank: I didn’t personally participate in one of the protests, but I did get to see them and all the people crowded onto the overpass and in the streets. For me, the protests is a call for inclusion, for us to come together in love.
Amon: I was fortunate to be on vacation and there were all kinds of people. We were together, intermingling on the beach and various other places and I was aware that we were all inclusive. It didn’t matter where any of us were from or what our politics were, there was harmony.
Debra: I was following the protests through Facebook, and I saw people exercising their right to express their beliefs peacefully and I saw a lot of joy. I can’t wait to get out there with everybody.
Dale: Inclusion… choice. I chose to come up front and play last week. I chose to be included in Gerise’s birthday celebration. Inclusion can’t happen unless I say yes.
Rev. Rafe: Inclusion indeed begins with you! And sometimes inclusion calls us to see and hear the calls for inclusion between the lines. I had the opportunity to support a young man at a court proceeding and while he was saying: “please don’t come” he was telling me when, where, and the time it was happening and how afraid he was. Sometimes we get to respond to the call for inclusion beyond the guilt and shame that pushes it away.
HOW ARE YOU LIVING INCLUSION?
