Spring 2025

Message From The Chairman, Richard Munro

As I am writing this, it's hard to believe that May is almost over and summer is just around the corner.

The NACD Pacific Southwest Chapter continues to be very busy producing world class director education programs and serving NACD members across Arizona, Nevada, and Southern California. Since January 2025, we have produced 10 world class director education programs with many more in the planning stages scheduled for June, and from September to November this year. Our programs continue to be very well attended by members from across the US and around the world. We thank you all for your continued support. Stay tuned for future announcements about programs, and visit our website frequently to see new program postings and register to attend.

Our strategic partnerships initiative continues to flourish, particularly in Arizona where there is so much new economic opportunity and development. Our Arizona Regional Advisory Board has grown from strength to strength and is working on a number of new exciting partnerships with leading Arizona organizations which will benefit NACD members and regional economic development in the future. If you would like to get involved with any of our Regional Advisory Boards in Southern California, Nevada, or Arizona, please contact our Executive Director Alexis Santucci

alexis@nacdpsw.org who will make the appropriate introductions.

For over a decade, the NACD PSW Chapter has curated four roundtable groups of directors in specific areas - financial services, compensation, nominating and governance, and real estate. Each roundtable meets quarterly to hear speakers and discuss issues of mutual interest to corporate directors in a relaxed Chatham House rules environment. If you are a director serving in one of these areas and are interested in becoming an active participant in a roundtable, please contact Alexis.  The NACD PSW Chapter innovated roundtables, and they have been an invaluable resource for shared knowledge and peer networking for members.

We are hosting with KPMG, one of our valued platinum sponsors, a summer in person social event in Los Angeles late July. This will be a fun opportunity to meet many members in person in a wonderful summer evening setting. Please sign up to attend on our website. We are also planning future in person events, including an in person program in Las Vegas in September this year. Stay tuned for further information.

Our Corporate Directors Symposium committee has been busy planning the 18th Corporate Directors Symposium, in conjunction with UCLA Anderson, scheduled for Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Jonathan Club in Los Angeles.  We have already confirmed several distinguished directors to speak at this year’s symposium. Please mark your calendars to attend. Further information and registration details are available on our website.

Finally, I want to thank all of the hard working members of our Chapter Board, our Regional Advisory Boards, and our Chapter Ambassadors for all that they collectively do to advance the mission of our Chapter and serve NACD members in our region. I also want to thank all NACD members who engage with our Chapter, for your continuing strong support and attendance at our regular programs and events. I hope that you all have a safe and wonderful summer with your families.

Leadership in Action at Direct Relief

On May 8, the NACD Pacific Southwest Chapter was proud to host an inspiring event at the Santa Barbara headquarters of Direct Relief, one of the world’s top 10 largest humanitarian organizations.

Guests traveled from across Southern California—and as far as Chicago—to take part in a dynamic program centered on Direct Relief's exceptional board leadership, mission-driven strategy, and the governance practices that have made it a global leader in humanitarian efforts.

The morning kicked off with a welcome reception that set the tone for thoughtful conversations and new connections. Attendees then heard firsthand how Direct Relief’s approach to governance and leadership has propelled it to global prominence. The day concluded with lunch, networking, and guided tours of the organization’s cutting-edge facilities.

We were joined by key members of Direct Relief’s leadership team:

Amy Weaver (Chief Executive Officer), Byron Scott, MD, MBA (President & Chief Operating Officer), Mark Linehan (Board Chair), and Jeff Hoffman (Moderator), who offered valuable insights into the practices and principles driving the organization’s success.
