Dear Denver,

This August has been one of the most difficult in recent memory for the City & County of Denver, as 171 dedicated City employees were laid off due to Mayor Johnston’s budget cuts. These individuals have helped carry our City through some of its most challenging times, and their abrupt termination is alarming.

To all those who received the sudden news that you were let go, I’m sorry this has happened. You deserve better than this. I stand with you and I honor you. Your dedication to the City will not be in vain. You will always be part of Denver’s story, and we deeply thank you. Whatever you do next, please do not give up making this city better.

As we confront the ongoing challenges of this budget crisis, our office remains committed to protecting critical operations and ensuring access to the ballot box. This includes the dedicated employees who show up to work everyday on behalf of the people of Denver.

In solidarity,

Hon. Paul D. López

Denver Clerk & Recorder

Denver Elections Team Continues to Shape Statewide Policy

We’re proud to announce that DCR Senior Policy Advisor Ben Schler was selected as the new co-chair of the Colorado County Clerks Association’s Election Taskforce Committee. Ben brings deep expertise in election policy and administration, and we’re excited to see him take on this important leadership role. Ben takes on the role as DCR Election Director Todd Davidson steps down after eight years of service as co-chair of the committee.

"I'm excited to continue Todd's great work of making sure our office leads the discussion about election legislation in the state," Ben said.

A big thank-you to Davidson for his outstanding leadership and years of dedication to strengthening elections across Colorado.

“I am delighted to hand oversight of this committee to someone who is the most qualified in the state. Ben is the perfect person to take on this role,” Todd said.

It’s Back-to-School for Denver’s High School Deputy Registrar Program

Back to school festivities are a powerful reminder of the leadership, resilience, and deep impact that educators have on our communities, and schools play an essential role in nurturing the next generation of engaged citizens. As we embark on the new school year, the Denver Clerk & Recorder is excited to support voter registration and pre-registration efforts through the High School Deputy Registrar Program.

Colorado law requires that every public high school in the state designate a certified staff member to be trained as a Deputy Registrar. This individual is responsible for facilitating voter registration and pre-registration for eligible students and school employees on school grounds. Students as young as 15 years old can pre-register to vote, although they must be 18 by Election Day to cast a ballot.

Notice: Changes to

Recording Flat Fees

As a reminder, changes to document recording fees took effect July 1, 2025, under a new Colorado state law. Most documents now carry a flat fee of $43 per recording. In addition, releases of deeds of trust executed by a public trustee are now subject to a flat fee of $73 per document for execution and recording.

These changes have been in place for over a month. If you haven’t reviewed the updates yet, click the link below to watch a short video explaining what’s new.
