First and foremost, we want to shout out the City of Roanoke staff (we're particularly fond our our Parks crews) who have been working round the clock to clear the incredibly challenging snow and ice. We hope you'll join us in saying a huge thank you for their very hard (and continuing) work!

While this February is starting with more weather impacts than expected, there's a lot to love in the coming month. The Wasena Skatepark & Pump Track Ribbon Cutting had to be postponed, but we look forward to celebrating with you all when things aren't coated in ice! February also brings an opportunity for parents to enjoy a night out while their kids have a Friday the 13th themed evening. Plus, you can join us for a Valentine's trip to Staunton for a glass blowing class & wine tasting!

Be sure to keep an eye on on the City of Roanoke's Facebook & Instagram for any important weather updates, and stay safe in the winter weather!

Spring ball is right around the corner, and now is the time to sign up!

Our volunteer-led Youth Softball & Little League Baseball leagues start practice in March, and games will begin in April.

Register with the recreation club that services the area in which you live. Find your rec club and sign up at the link below!

Due to the snow & ice, we rescheduled our Winter Bird Hike - we hope you can still join us!

Now February 22, this hike will follow our feathered friends on a gentle hike. Join us as we search for chickadees, woodpeckers, nuthatches, and more. We'll listen for bird calls and other avian sights and sounds.

It's cold now, but warmer weather will be here before you know it, which means we're hiring!

We're looking for lifeguards to work at Washington Park and Fallon Park pools this summer. We also have full time positions on our mowing crews, and more seasonal openings coming soon.

View all open positions and apply today!

PARK PROJECT UPDATES

The Wasena Skatepark & Pump Track Ribbon Cutting has been postponed due to the recent weather. A new date will be announced shortly - stay tuned!

Construction on the In-River Park is nearly complete at two locations along the Roanoke River: an ADA access point under Memorial Bridge and stairway access point just upriver of the first low water bridge along Wiley Drive. The project is currently focused on the site between Vic Thomas and Wasena Parks and progress will continue through 2026!

Lots of progress has been made on the Eureka Recreation Center as well! The geothermal systems are up and running and solar panels have been installed on the roof. The indoor gym flooring & outdoor basketball court are also among the recent accomplishments. We look forward to full completion of this facility in the coming months!
