ChatGPT Experiment Regarding our Health

An incredible analysis in less than a heartbeat...

SOS #374 - J. Morris Hicks (10-27-2026)

Greetings to all,

Last week, I decided to find out what ChatGPT knows about nutrition. So, I conducted a little test — and the results were stunning.

Here’s what I wrote to ChatGPT:

I am an exceptionally healthy 81-year old man living in coastal Connecticut.

I completely stopped eating meat, dairy, eggs and fish in 2003, when I shifted 100% to a whole food, plant based diet.

Then, in less than one year, my body sought its ideal weight of 140 pounds, down from a high of 180. I am 70 inches tall.

I have an engineering degree and an MBA — and am living in a simple, comfortable and stress-free manner. I have published three books on human and environmental health and have been blessed with an amazing life partner, lots of friends — along with two adult children and eight grandchildren.

My wife, my kids and my oldest four grandchildren are all college graduates. I feel that I have been blessed. I walk an average of three miles a day and lift weights every other day. My father died at 91.

How long should I expect to live?

J. Morris Hicks

Now, for the AI response. Not only was it accurate and voluminous, but it was the deliberation time that astounded me:

Less than two seconds. Here it is:

Note that every single word below

was generated by AI:

Hello J. Morris Hicks,

Thank you for sharing your story.

What stands out to me is not simply that you have reached 81 in excellent health, but how intentionally you have lived: more than two decades of whole-food, plant-based eating, daily walking, regular strength training, intellectual engagement, a loving partner, children and grandchildren, and a life of meaningful work.

You have many of the ingredients associated with healthy aging. And I think there is an important distinction in your question: How long might you live, and how long might you remain healthy and independent? Those are related, but they are not the same.

My best estimate of your life expectancy

Based on what you have told me, I would be optimistic about your prospects for living into your late 80s or 90s, with a meaningful possibility of reaching 100.

But I would not want to promise a particular age, even with your exceptionally healthy lifestyle. Here is why I say that:

You have already reached 81 in excellent health. Your current health and functional ability are more informative than life expectancy measured at birth.

Your daily activity is excellent. Walking three miles a day and lifting weights every other day support mobility, cardiovascular fitness and preservation of muscle.

Your diet may be a significant advantage. A well-planned whole-food, plant-based diet can support cardiovascular and metabolic health, although it cannot eliminate all causes of illness.

You have strong social and personal connections. A loving relationship, family, friendships and a sense of purpose are all associated with healthier aging.

Your father's longevity is encouraging. His reaching 91 suggests that favorable familial factors may be present, although one parent's lifespan cannot reliably predict your own.

Your weight deserves a little nuance, too. At 70 inches and 140 pounds, your BMI is approximately 20.1 — within the conventional healthy range. Because you are lean, maintaining muscle, adequate nutrition and stable weight is particularly important as you age.

What do the statistics say?

The Social Security Administration's 2023 life table, used in its 2026 Trustees Report, gives an average remaining life expectancy of about 8 years for an American man aged 81—an average age at death of roughly 89.

That is a population average, not a personal prediction. It includes men with very different health conditions and lifestyles, and it cannot precisely account for your individual advantages.

I would not simply add a fixed number of years to that average because of your diet and exercise. Research does support the value of these habits, but we cannot calculate their precise effect on your individual lifespan.

What would I focus on now?

If I were in your position, I would concentrate on five priorities:

One. Preserve muscle and strength. Continue resistance training and make balance exercises part of your routine.

Two. Maintain adequate nutrition. At your relatively lean weight, avoid unintended weight loss and ensure sufficient calories and protein.

Three. Monitor the important health indicators. Blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, kidney function and bone health can reveal risks even when you feel excellent.

Four. Prevent falls. Protecting your mobility and independence becomes increasingly valuable with age.

Five. Keep enjoying your life. Your relationships, intellectual interests and sense of purpose are assets worth nurturing in their own right. These priorities are consistent with guidance from the National Institute on Aging.

My personal assessment

You have already done many things that give you a good chance of aging well. Your father's reaching 91 is encouraging, and your present activity level and reported health are positive signs.

I would regard reaching 90 as a very reasonable aspiration, 95 as a meaningful possibility, and 100 as an ambitious but not impossible outcome. Those are hopeful milestones, not statistically calculated personal probabilities.

One final thought, especially given your work in human and environmental health: you have spent much of your life trying to help people live better. The years ahead can be valuable not only for their number, but for the time you have to enjoy your family and continue sharing what you have learned.

May those years be healthy, active and rewarding.

ChatGPT

**************************************

One thing I noticed is that the AI didn't mention a single word about the fact that we will never learn to live in harmony within our fragile ecosystem -- without the positive environmental impact of human beings eating nothing but plants.

But, with due respect to the AI, that environmental impact has little to do with the health of our human bodies.

That said, the environmental impact of what we eat is enormously crucial -- when it comes to our future as a species.

As for that question about people not "getting it."

Most people don't "get it" because of the power that the animal agriculture industry wields. Those mammoth industries who produce those foods -- continue to hide the truth about the physical nightmare of eating meat, dairy, and/or fish.

Sadly, most people simply don't want to "get it." They've been eating that way for so long -- that they simply can't imagine their lives without their favorite foods.

Even our prominent schools of nutrition are not telling the public the truth -- as they have been bought and paid for by the gigantic and powerful animal agriculture industry.

Why didn't we stop eating animals long ago? Why have we continued producing foods that waste our water, promote climate change, wreck our environment and make us sick? Not to mention the suffering of all those innocent animals?

The short answer is a combination of greed, ignorance and gluttony. Our collective food choices are just one example of hundreds -- that illustrate why humans will probably never be able to take enough bold action, soon enough — to prevent our near-term demise as a species.

In addition to eating the right food for humans, we must also get serious about overpopulation AND the way we live and transport ourselves.

As of late 2026, there are 8.3 billion humans on the planet and we are still adding more than a net six million every month.

Sadly, most of our world leaders think that a lower birth rate is a problem -- as if our little planet could support an unlimited number of human beings on this single, fragile planet. As a practical engineer, I call this absolute lunacy.

Based on studies from the Global Footprint Network and my

own extrapolations, it seems that if we totally reinvented our civilization, making it as GREEN as possible — our planet could support around four billion people indefinitely.

So how do we cut our current number in half? Perhaps the AI cyborgs will exercise compassion by implementing a global process that would rationally and gradually reduce the birth rate enough to steadily begin bringing our total population down to four billion.

But even that gradual population decline will require a sharp reduction in the birth rate itself. As suggested in Chapter Six, in order to lower our population to four billion in less than

two hundred years, we would need to immediately lower the number of daily human births by almost 75% — reducing them from around 380,000/day to around 100,000.

Assuming a much lower birth rate, if you do the math, it would take us some 160 years to reach a theoretically sustainable population level of four billion people.

The Bottom Line

ChatGPT enthusiastically supports the wisdom of humans everywhere regarding a shift to a whole food, plant-based diet -- when it comes to human health.

But, when it comes to the health of the environment, we must not only shift quickly to a plant-based way of eating.

In addition to our food choices, if we want our grandchildren to be able to live comfortable lives on planet Earth, we must also address two other huge factors regarding the grossly unsustainable manner in which most of us choose to live in the developed world.

We must answer these two questions:

One. How should we be living? Our homes, clothing, etc.

Two. How should we be transporting ourselves?

Regarding those two questions, we have published three very simple, yet powerful books, that any third grader can understand.

This book can be purchased at Amazon and in bookstores.

My son, Jason, and I published the first book in 2011. It is still available on Amazon -- in multiple formats and in bookstores everywhere.

Books #2 and #3 can be accessed for FREE below. All three books can be purchased on Amazon.

Let's take a look at our second book. In 2015, I teamed up with a medical doctor to publish the 4Leaf Guide to Vibrant Health.

First. a little background, our 4Leaf model is all about maximizing the percentage of one's daily calories that are derived from whole plants -- the natural diet for our species.

FYI, the strongest mammals in the world; elephants, giraffes and gorillas -- eat almost exclusively, raw plants.

As for 4Leaf, we set the top bar at 80%, meaning that if you derive 80% or more of your total daily calories from whole plants, you are eating at the 4Leaf level.

The 3-Leaf level is over 60% and so forth. The average person in the developed world derives just 7% of her/his calories from whole plants.

And that's why our healthcare industry is about ten times larger than it should be. You see, that sad industry is really NOT about "health care." It is totally about "Disease management."

How so, you might ask? Well, there's simply no money to be made from promoting health -- and that's why medical doctors are ONLY trained to manage diseases.

You can take our free, online survey in less than two minutes at: 4leafsurvey.com

That survey will compute the estimated percentage of your daily calories that you are deriving from whole plants.

Sadly the gigantic "disease management" industry in the USA is making so much money -- that it will NEVER encourage Americans to embrace a truly health-promoting way of eating -- like 4Leaf. Learn all about 4Leaf at 4leafprogram.com

At the first link below, you can read every chapter of the 4Leaf Guide. Just below that link, you can use the provided link to Amazon -- where you can purchase e-copies and hard copies of this powerful little book.

4Leaf Guide to Vibrant Health (concise 2015 book).

Want to get healthy, save money, lose weight AND help preserve the ecosystem that keeps us alive? You will find the 37 two-minute chapters helpful. Authors:

Kerry Graff, MD

& J. Morris Hicks

You can also purchase e-copies and hard copies of the 4Leaf Guide from Amazon.

Our third, and most likely, our final book

At the links below, you can access every chapter of our 2020 book, OUTCRY. This powerful little book was written and published during the COVID years -- and it is the last book that we have published.

As I eluded to above, I doubt that we will publish any additional books. Why? Because there really is nothing left to say.

Available only as

an e-book

You can purchase it from Amazon at this link OR, in the text below, you can access direct links to ALL elements of this great little book.

You may wonder why it is only available as an e-book. It is simply because e-books are -- by far -- the most Earth-friendly way to publish reading material and, when it comes to a book about survival like this one, it just felt like the right thing to do.

Here's what my friend James Cameron had to say about OUTCRY on the front cover.

His quote below appeared in an email that he had sent to me regarding a related topic.

So, I asked his permission to use it for a blurb on the cover of the book -- and he enthusiastically granted permission.

As for the question he poses in the quote above, he and his family are ultra-enthusiastic supporters of the power of whole food, plant-based eating -- to promote both human AND environmental health.

The question that Mr. Cameron and I are both asking:

"Will we get it done in time to preserve a reasonably enjoyable way of life for the innocent children of the world?"

In closing, I am confident that if you read all three of our books with an open mind -- you will likely be influenced to begin making some big changes in what you are eating.

These three books provide all you need to know to get started -- including lots of recipes in our 4Leaf Guide. Please email me directly if you have questions: jmorrishicks@me.com

Finally, the photo below was taken at Fort Trumbull, near my writing studio in New London, CT. With wild birds in the foreground and the three-masted USCG Barque Eagle in the background, I am smelling the roses every day -- and will never give up regarding my lifetime mission of:

Promoting Health, Hope & Harmony on Planet Earth

Fort Trumbull is located on the banks of the Thames River in New London, Connecticut -- and was the original location of the United Staes Coast Guard Academy.

My writing studio is walking distance from Fort Trumbull as well as the now under construction National Coast Guard Museum and the U.S. Coast Guard training ship, EAGLE, whose home port is in downtown New London.

When in town, she will be tied up right next to the museum -- where I expect to be working as a volunteer docent by next year's grand opening in August.

Finally, notice the message on this Coast Guard veteran's vanity license plate.

In addition to the obvious USCG meaning, it also serves as a conversation starter regarding the future of civilization:

"United Saving Civilization Group 4 Mother Earth."

In closing: Be well, eat well, and help us preserve the ability of Mother Nature to provide a sustainable biosphere for all of Earth's creatures -- especially for the hundreds of millions of innocent children in the world today.

Fun Fact: If we consume the best foods for our physical health, we'll also be doing what's best for the health of the ecosystem that keeps us alive. How convenient is that?

As an aside, the actual lighthouse that appears on my license plate is located less than twenty miles from my home. It is called the Saybrook Breakwater Light.

Sincerely, Jim Hicks

PS: I look forward to hearing your comments and questions. We're talking about the most important truth in the history of humanity. Let me help you spread that truth to everyone you know.

Before you go, please take the time to watch this FREE, 35-minute video. Then share it widely. It's the best video ever for helping people everywhere learn about the most powerful step we can all take to fight climate change.

At the one-minute mark, a scientist at the University of Oxford sums up our situation succinctly:

"If we don't address what we eat, we simply won't make it."

Essential Facts version:Eating Our Way to Extinction

Next Up: The China Study documentary. Just before publishing the John Mackey SOS Memo on 6-11-24, I watched the excellent video below -- a 30-year-old documentary that illustrates the failures of our institutions to tell the global public the complete truth about our FOOD.

Shamefully, for many decades, Cornell, other schools of nutrition and hundreds of governments have withheld the TRUTH about our food choices from the public.

Had they shared that truth long ago, we may very well NOT be facing runaway climate change today. Click the image below to watch this 55-minute China Study video documentary.

How can YOU make a difference?

1st: Become a healthy vegan -- making sure that over 80% of your calories are derived from whole, plant-based foods. As such, you will be doing your part in dismantling the leading driver of climate change: global animal agriculture. As a personal bonus, you will get healthier, eliminate most prescription drugs, lose weight and save money at the same time.

2nd: Start "walking the talk" of sustainable living. Let your actions do the talking for your friends and family. My thoughts on that process are in this updated SOS Memo #200 from early 2023, when I moved into my delightful 443 square feet, about halfway between New York and Boston -- on the busiest passenger rail line in the USA.

3rd: Check out the FREE stuff in the appendix and start sharing all of this info with your friends & family.
