A Village of Hope for John
When John and his wife first reached out to Angel Flight NE, they were facing an unimaginable journey.
John, who lives in Fort Fairfield, Maine, is battling a rare form of cancer that has proven resistant to traditional chemotherapy treatments. Determined to keep fighting, he travels regularly to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he is participating in clinical trials that offer hope not only for his own future, but for others facing similar diagnoses.
The distance between northern Maine and Boston is significant, but thanks to the incredible generosity of our volunteer pilots, commercial airline partners, volunteer drivers, and supporters, John has never had to make the journey alone.
To date, Angel Flight NE has coordinated 53 volunteer pilot missions and 9 JetBlue flights, ensuring John can continue accessing the specialized care he needs. Most recently, John and his wife traveled to Boston for another appointment, where Earth Angel Rod provided transportation between Lawrence Municipal Airport and Massachusetts General Hospital. Following their appointment, volunteer pilot Peter R. flew the couple home to northern Maine.
During their visit, we had the opportunity to welcome John and his wife through our home office at Lawrence Municipal Airport on a beautiful sunny day. Moments like these remind us that Angel Flight NE is much more than transportation, it is a community. From the volunteer pilots who donate their time, aircraft, and compassion, to Earth Angel Rod, who provided ground transportation to and from appointments, every mission is powered by people who genuinely care. It truly takes a village.
We are deeply grateful to the Maine Cancer Foundation for helping fund critical transportation for Maine patients like John, and to our longtime partner JetBlue for providing commercial flights when needed. Together, they help ensure that distance is never a barrier to life-saving and life-sustaining medical care.
As John continues his fight, he reminds us why this mission matters. Behind every flight is a family searching for hope, and behind every successful mission is a community coming together to make that hope possible.
