The Epiphany Proclamation
“Kids these days have it too easy,” the old priest said. “If they want to know when Easter is, all they have to do is ask Siri or the Tic-Toc. Back in my day, we had to use a telescope, an almanac, and an abacus to figure it out.”
The old priest is not wrong. If you’ve ever looked at the section in the prayerbook titled, “Tables for Finding Holy Days” (BCP pp. 897-885), you would have some sympathy for the old priest. Figuring out Golden Numbers and Sunday Letters is enough to drive anyone mad.
Today, we can simply ask a computer to tell us when a particular holy day will happen. But before computers, and to make people’s lives a little easier, the Church had a custom of announcing all the dates of the moveable feasts of the year at the Epiphany, which is conveniently at the beginning of January. It became known as the Epiphany Proclamation. Here is what it would sound like in 2024:...

New Christians and
The Rev. George Mason
Sunday, January 7 we will resume our normal two service schedule with the Holy Eucharist being celebrated at 9:00am and 11:15am. Both services will be marked by special events: we will share in the baptisms of new Christians and welcome The Rev. George Mason as our guest preacher for both services.

The Rev. George Mason is the retired Sr. Pastor of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas. He is a renowned preacher, pastor, and community leader, whose presentation at the Fig in Lent several years, on the subject of Christian love, was deeply impactful. Under his 30-year leadership, Wilshire (a member of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship) became a flagship of compassion and inclusivity in our community, echoing our own core values and witness.

- Generate 2.8 Mwh of electricity
- Offset 2.2 tons of carbon
- Contribute the equivalent planting of 33 trees, charging 250,524 phones, or powering 3 electric cars to drive across the U.S.
We end 2024 having generated 43.5 Megawatt Hours of electricity offsetting 35 tons of carbon emissions. That's the equivalent of planting a small forest of 531 trees, charging 3.9 million phones, or fully powering 3.5 average U.S. houses for an entire year!
