Dennis Hopper asked to share his story

Look at my legs. They bend out like a strung bow. They are likely the result of some genetics, inbreeding, and rough early puppyhood.

The good news is that I am finally in the care of WCHS. They have experience assessing puppies like me. A few years ago, they helped a guy with worse legs—they splinted them and prescribed PT. As he grew, his legs got more robust. A family even adopted him!

That’s my wish—to grow up healthier and live in a loving home. The staff says I must wait until they get an X-ray so the vet can look at my “growth plate.” I think that is a fancy way of saying they want to know more so they can create a treatment plan and have the best information to pass along to a new mom or dad.

The other staff lady says, “Try to get that X-ray ASAP,” because she worries that fewer folks may want to adopt me when I enter my teen years.  To solve this dilemma, I am working on my charm. Charming as a youth or teen is a good trait.

I wag my tail. Cast my eyes softly at all humans. I’ve mastered the butt-scootch right up to a human’s legs. I love to play. However, I do look silly running because my gait (the fancy word the vet tech says) is wonky.

I am sharing my thoughts with you because the worried lady who wants me in a loving home sooner rather than later says it is YOU, a donor, who gives dogs like me a second chance. Donations will cover the cost of that X-ray. Your generosity allows WCHS to have a vet on staff. That lady’s exact words are, “You—people who give $10, $100, $300—are the hearts behind the team’s working hands.”

I am not worried about the future—the lady worries. I am already receiving excellent care and oodles of love.

Before saying “thank you!” 28 felines are yowling, “Tell them about us!” Well, your gifts also helped many cats last week. I’ve never seen so many cats—all colors, sizes, ages, personalities, and some injured and sick. Something like 53 of them are being cared for now, and like 12 of them went into new loving homes the past couple of days.

You saved them, too.

From all of us- Thank you!
