We invest in programs that focus on education, economic empowerment, and holistic well-being locally and in neighboring communities South of the Border. However, the funds raised during NTGD are directly invested in programs that benefit children, mothers, and families in North Texas.

We do this by supporting literacy camps and field trips with Casa del Lago in the Dallas Bachman Lake Community. Children in low-income neighborhoods like Bachman Lake can lose as much as ten weeks of learning during the summer. Without summer reading enrichment, these elementary students could fall further behind in the next school year and struggle to learn new reading skills in class.

Third-grade reading levels are a crucial predictor of high school graduation rates, rates of teen pregnancy, drug use, and even future prison needs in Texas. Only 41% of Bachman Lake 3rd graders read on grade level. In grades 1st-3rd, students learn to read, but in 4th grade, they start reading to learn other subjects. When students read at grade level by 4th grade, they are better equipped to succeed in other subjects and throughout their education.
