Week of December 9-13, 2019
"Tis the time to expect miracles. . ."

Dear Southern Door Community,

If your house is like ours, this season brings all those movies that we have come to know and love, like "It's A Wonderful Life," "Miracle on 34th Street", Hallmark Holiday movies, and of course your own family traditions. These annual events usually confirm our need to believe that miracles are possible and yes, within our reach. The dictionary says that a "miracle" can be a wonderful occurrence that "beats the odds" or "something of great and unusual value." Working in a school allows us, as educators, to witness miracles every day! It is a place of ordinary students, staff, and volunteers who do extraordinary things which make a difference in the lives of others.

We know that at this time of year, many of you have your own special charitable traditions as a family, in your workplaces, or your churches to help those in need. If you would like to consider supporting some of our projects here at school, we have the following donation opportunities happening right now: the middle school food drive for the Maplewood Pantry; volunteering time to help elementary students shop for gifts in the Winter Eagles' Nest Store (see article below); or purchasing winter clothing items for our Caring Closet for students in need. Just connect with one of our offices to get more information on how to help, because as a Southern Door community, we are there for each other and We Are Eagle Strong!

Student and staff safety are our highest priority! Nothing is more important than that!
This week has brought unsettling news about several serious safety incidents in Wisconsin schools. In all of the situations, students and staff reacted as they have been trained and reported what they heard or saw, and implemented the safety response procedures they have been provided.

We encourage that anyone who hears or sees something needs to report that information to school administrators or our School Resource Officer during the school day, or if after regular school hours, report to the sheriff’s office or use the new ‘See It, Say It, Send It’ Tip Reporting Line. Directions for how to access the tip reporting line can be found at this website link, along with our emergency protocols and communication procedures.

Thank you for sharing the responsibility with us to ensure that our school continues to be a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment in which to grow and learn.
SOUTHERN DOOR RECEIVES PACKER FOUNDATION GRANT
Earlier this week, in the Lambeau Field Atrium, Superintendent Patti Vickman and Middle School Principal Brenda Shimon, accepted a $7,000 grant from the Green Bay Packer Foundation, on behalf of the elementary and middle schools. The grant will be applied towards the renovation of the elementary and middle school playground equipment. A special thank you to the Green Bay Packers Foundation for their generous outreach to our school.
