Life Thought

October 11

20th Sunday after Pentecost

The wedding feast is prepared, yet people have lots of reasons for not attending.

However, the excuses given for rejecting God are as implausible as the excuses people give to defend abortion and assisted dying (Matthew 22:5). Still, as a God invites us into His great wedding banquet, He reminds us that this feast has been prepared for all and that every person is still precious to Him (Isaiah 25:6-7). Therefore, we have the task of extending

His gracious invitation to "as many as you find" (Matthew 22:9).

We are currently at Step 5: Candidate Evaluation.

The Call Committee has received the list of pastoral candidates for consideration as Ascension’s next Senior Pastor. The committee is prayerfully reviewing the candidates as we continue through the call process.

Please continue to keep the Call Committee, our congregation, and the pastors being considered in your prayers.

Growing

Fall Fest is coming up on Sunday, October 25 from 4:00–6:00 p.m., and we need volunteers to help make the evening possible! Whether you can host a trunk, help with activities, or lend a hand in another area, we would greatly appreciate your help.

Please take a moment to view the sign-up and choose a way to help. Every volunteer makes a difference in creating a fun and welcoming evening for our church, school, and community!

Caring

Join us again for our Operation Christmas Child 2026 Shoebox Ministry! On October 10th and 11th 2026, our empty shoeboxes will be waiting for you in the Narthex to fill with loving gifts packed by each of you. These boxes will be sent on from Ascension to places where the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be proclaimed to children everywhere. Don’t miss this chance to get involved! Pick up a shoebox, along with a brochure explaining the process and including labels, and fill it with blessings. Boxes will be due the weekend of November 14th and 15th 2026.

Not interested in preparing a box? Our Ascension Youth with the help of their esteemed leader, GeriLynn, will shop and pack for you. Just grab an envelope and make a donation to Ascension marked “OCC” and we will do the rest! Did you know that since 1993 more than 244 million children in over 175 countries and territories have received a shoebox gift? What an amazing way to share the love of Jesus! Thank you, dear Ascension friends!

See how a simple shoebox gift can make an eternal impact! Watch this short video to see how Operation Christmas Child is sharing the Gospel and reaching children around the world.

Sharing

In this week’s Hymn Study, Kyle Sprute explores “A Multitude Comes from the East and the West.” Learn more about the history behind the hymn and how its words point us to God’s invitation, His mercy, and the hope we have in the heavenly feast to come.

Time and Talents: We invite everyone to complete a Time and Talents form and share the ways you may be interested in serving and getting involved at Ascension. Forms can be completed online using the link, or paper copies can be found in the seat pockets in the Worship Center.

Thank you for being part of the many ways we grow, care, and share together at Ascension!

Ascension School Corner

We are thankful for the opportunity our children have to gather for chapel and learn about God’s love in memorable and meaningful ways. Here’s a small glimpse into last week’s chapel with Pastor John, where a few fun props helped bring the message to life!

Did you know you can support Ascension Lutheran School just by doing your regular grocery shopping at Fry’s?

Through the Fry’s Community Rewards Program, you can link Ascension Lutheran School to your Fry’s account. Once you’re enrolled, a portion of your eligible purchases will be donated back to our school — at no additional cost to you!

It only takes a few minutes to sign up, but those everyday grocery trips can add up to make a BIG difference for our school and students.

Once you’ve linked Ascension Lutheran School to your Fry’s Community Rewards account, show Meghan the confirmation on your Fry’s app or send her a screenshot.

As a little thank-you for doing something so BIG for our school, you’ll receive a small surprise from us!

Already linked to Ascension? That counts too! Show us your app or send a screenshot so we can say thank you for supporting our school with every grocery run.

Stewardship Thought

October 11 - 20th Sunday after Pentecost

Matthew 22:5 - "But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business."  The invitation to join God in His feast and in His work is easily ignored. The rest of life seems so much more pressing, and we always think that there will be another time when we can catch back up with God. But what joys are we missing when we set aside God's invitation to join Him in His plans and purposes? What inheritance are we trading for the world's bowl of pottage?
