The Family Health Center Celebrates Three Years at NYMC
The FHC at NYMC celebrated their third year on campus. The outpatient clinic, opened in October 2019, provides quality and affordable medical care staffed by board-certified family physician faculty. Led by Lori Weir Solomon, M.D. '99, M.P.H. '09, chair and clinical associate professor of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and director of the FHC, the clinic serves patients from Westchester, New York City and the tri-state area and was a tremendous resource during the pandemic after just five months of operation. NYMC and Union Community Health Center Partner for Clinical and Allied Health Profession Training Program
NYMC and Union Community Health Center (UNION) in the Bronx, New York, are partnering to establish a clinical and allied health profession training program at UNION to provide students with clinical and public health policy experience during required and elective rotations in the fields of medicine, public health, physical therapy and speech-language pathology. NYMC Forms Academic Affiliation with St. Mary’s General Hospital and Saint Clare’s Hospitals
NYMC formed a new academic affiliation with New Jersey hospitals St. Mary’s General Hospital in Passaic and Saint Clare’s Hospitals in Denville and Dover, which designates the hospitals as primary clinical sites for the education of NYMC residents. The NYMC sponsorship includes residency programs in internal medicine and psychiatry and further enhances NYMC’s extensive network of affiliated hospitals and clinical sites that encompasses more than 25 affiliates, across four states—New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Alan B. Rosenthal, D.M.D., a member of the Board of Trustees, recently completed a medical mission trip to Kibera, Kenya, where his team treated more than 250 patients in ten days, saving the lives of several children who were days away from sepsis from oral infections. They screened, diagnosed and treated multiple dog bites, third-degree burns, fungal infections, parasitic gastrointestinal infections, hypertension, diabetes and many other non-communicable diseases.

Tai M. Lee Jr., EMT-P/CIC, MEP, assistant director of the Center for Disaster Medicine, was an invited speaker at the Westchester County Police Academy to assist in the training of the current police recruit class from February 27 – March 7. He assisted in training in pre-hospital medical care, including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillator use, patient assessment, basic trauma care, naloxone administration, oxygen administration, and mass casualty incident response and management.

Anish R. Maskey, a Ph.D. candidate in the laboratory of XiuMin, Li, M.D., M.S., professor of pathology, microbiology and immunology, gave an oral presentation, "Inhibition of pathologic immunoglobulin E in food allergy by EBF-2 and active compound berberine associated with immunometabolism regulation," at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas, February 24 – 28. He was a recipient of a Ph.D. travel award to attend the event.

Student Fundraiser
The student-led fundraiser for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria is accepting medical supplies, baby formula, tents and sleeping bags only in the MEC lobby, in addition to monetary donations for The American Red Cross and Türkiye Earthquake Relief Fund through March 10.
