Dear Friends:
A Three Year Anniversary
The Shitungu soap project is celebrating three years of successful production. Shitungu villagers are a step closer to achieving their goal of financial independence due to the growth of the soap production project. Soap production has increased from 70 bars per each pouring compared to 5-10 bars when it was started just three years ago.
Increased sales helps to cover cost of living expenses and has significantly improved the quality of life for all 20 families involved in production and sales.
Families save money by using their own soap instead of buying from shops and profit from sales has allowed villagers to purchase necessities and even invest in small livestock: chickens and goats.
At Shitungu’s soap-making operation, health and safety precautions are a priority. Support from KVEO combined with the wise reinvestment of profits has improved safety work practices. Workers now use face masks, gloves, boots and overalls to prevent accidents. Improved worker safety standards help prevent accidents and injuries while creating reliable work for village families.
Shitungu looks forward to expanding this project. Community leaders are researching the cost of more sophisticated equipment, access to supply chains, government regulations, packaging methods and promotion opportunities.
Your support will help KVEO fund updated safety equipment to keep village workers safe, improve production standards and keep livelihoods strong.
