A Personal Message from Dr. Terrance L. Stone
Dear Friends, Family, Community Partners, and Supporters,
For more than 25 years, I've dedicated my life to helping young people, families, and communities overcome challenges, break destructive cycles, and discover their true potential.
My journey from the streets to becoming an author, national speaker, gang intervention and prevention specialist, and Founder & CEO of Young Visionaries Youth Leadership Academy is proof that your past does not have to determine your future.
Today, I'm excited to share two books that reflect my experiences, lessons, and commitment to transforming lives.

Hip Hop and Gang Culture: From a West Coast Perspective is a powerful examination of the relationship between hip hop, neighborhood identity, gang culture, media, violence, trauma, entrepreneurship, and transformation.
Drawing from decades of lived experience, gang intervention work, youth development, and community leadership, Dr. Terrance L. Stone takes readers beyond stereotypes and sensational headlines to explore how West Coast communities helped shape one of the most influential cultural movements in the world.
The book traces the evolution of West Coast hip hop from early DJs, electro, party crews, independent artists, and regional pioneers to the rise of gangsta rap and the global visibility of Los Angeles, Compton, Watts, Long Beach, Pomona, San Diego, Oakland, Vallejo, and the Bay Area. It examines how music, film, music videos, television, YouTube, podcasts, smartphones, and social media helped transform neighborhood identity and street reputation into widely recognized cultural images.

How to Move in a Room Full of Vultures: A Memoir of Redemption and Leadership
Some rooms weren't built for you to win in. Some were built to watch you fail, to study your downfall, to celebrate your silence. I've stood in those rooms: boardrooms, classrooms, trap houses, courtrooms, and I've felt the weight of expectation that I wouldn't survive any of them.
But I did.
I wasn't born with privilege. I wasn't handed opportunity. I was born into pain, into poverty, into a world where survival was the first lesson and silence was survival's twin. I learned to move young, through chaos, through violence, through grief. And somewhere in that storm, I found my voice.
This book isn't about glorifying the streets. It's not about bragging rights. This is about the lessons that nearly broke me and the redemption that rebuilt me.
